“Me, too.”
“Let’s get out of here the minute daylight shows its face.”
“I agree.”
Just then, a soft ‘pop’ sounded from the hall and a soft glow shone from beneath the door.
“The lights are back on!”
Rolling away from him, Kimber reached for the bedside lamp and pulled the string. It came on with a warm, golden glow. Turning back, she sucked in a breath at the sight of Ethan’s handsome face. He wore a satiated expression as watched her with one arm behind his head.
“Lie back down with me.”
Her body ached in all the right places as she moved to comply. He pulled her in and wrapped an arm around her waist.
“I could go back to my room now.”
His arm tightened. “No way. You’re mine.”
“Oh, really?”
She thought of the dream. It made her feel like they belonged together in that castle. Settling into his embrace, she couldn’t deny the feeling of rightness. Happily dozing, she let herself drift to sleep in his arms.
A hard knock at the door woke her with a jolt.
Ethan was up before she realized what was happening. Slipping into his jeans, he padded to the door on bare feet. Daylight streamed through the cracked window.
“What is it?”
“Have you seen Kimber? She’s not in her room.”
Pel! Pulling the sheets beneath her chin, she held her breath in anticipation of him barging his way inside. Had he gone inside her room looking for her?
“Probably in the bathroom.”
“I checked there. It’s empty.”
Her mouth fell in indignation. Why was he hunting her down?
“I’m not sure, then.”
“Can I come in?”
Kimber shrunk against the pillows. Ethan had his hand on the doorknob and was gripping it tight.
“Sorry, mate, I’m not dressed.”
The doorknob jiggled. The bastard was trying to come in!
“Get dressed and come down for breakfast.”
“Will do.”
Ethan held onto the door handle for several tense minutes. Kimber quietly dressed and pulled her hair into a ponytail. She wasn’t going to face Pel this morning. In fact, she was pulling the plug on this whole thing. When she got back to her hotel, she was calling Jim to let him know the Pel Cappa interview would not happen.
Her hairline tingled as she considered his response. But her body felt light and weightless, the sweet ache on the inside of her thighs a reminder that not everything about this trip had been a disaster. She’d figure out how to handle Jim, just like she figured out how to handle everything else.
Ethan strode over to her, took her in his arms, and kissed her slowly. Reluctant to pull away, she gave him one last kiss and finished getting ready.
