“No, baby,” I say stepping into the apartment. I have no intention of leaving. Ever. “I just stepped out to make a call.”

I read the question in her eyes but lean in and kiss her before she can voice it. I don’t want to lie to her about what I have done, but I will be damned if I’ll sit around and let someone hurt her. I don’t care if Wood finds anything or not, I am going to stomp over anyone or anything that gets in Scarlett’s way.

“I love you, Maverick,” she whispers, winding her arms around my neck and drawing me closer. “I love you too… forever.” I whisper back.

Six years later

I expected to spend our fifth wedding anniversary at a luxury resort, or at the very least at our house dancing to slow music, but I should have known better.

“I can’t believe I am spending my anniversary at your office,” I whine at no one in particular.

“You’re the one who…” I glare at Maverick and he quickly shuts his mouth, shifting his attention from me.

I admit, it’s my fault that we’re here but when Maverick suggested that his friends babysit our son, I just had to stay back and watch a while. These huge men are definitely going to break my little boy.

I wince when Robb flips my son to his back and pins him to the mat. I open my mouth to begin yelling at him when Maverick silences me with a quick kiss.

“Relax darling,” Maverick says, grabbing my hand. “Oliver is going to be fine. We can leave him with the boys for the night.”

Robb flips my son over his shoulder before dropping him down his back. Sure, my son cackles like a madman, but there is no way that this is safe.

“Did you see that? Oh, My God! Maverick, we can’t leave him with them. They are insane.”

“Hey, that’s offensive!” Wood complains from the corner where he’s lifting weights, but I ignore him.

“They can stay with him for the night. My mom will be here in the morning to be with Oliver for the whole time we are at the resort.”

“But –”

Maverick grabs my hand and drags me out of the workout area and shuffles me to his office on the third floor. My son’s laughter follows us up until Maverick shuts the door behind us.

“Relax baby,” he whispers, herding me toward the door.

“But I can’t… Ollie…”

“Is going to be okay. You forget the boys would never let any harm come to him. He has an entire group of bodyguards who will protect him with their own lives.”

He’s right.

I know he is right.

The men have fast become part of my family with how they easily accepted me. These past six years have been the best of my life. After Meredith left the hospital everything improved. I was eventually promoted to head nurse and I love every minute of it. The hospital has become a happy place. The security business though; feels like an extended family.

Everyone is up in everyone’s business and their love and support is everything.

“Okay,” I mutter, letting my muscles relax. “Okay, all right then.”

“Good,” Maverick grunts, turning me so I am facing the wall.

“Wait, here?” I ask startled. We haven’t ever had sex in his office after the embarrassment of that first time. “Maverick, the guys…”

“We’ll be quiet,” he whispers, cupping my mouth with his palm even as the finger of his other hand slips under my dress to my panties.

My eyes flutter to a close and I moan when he yanks them down and drags the pad of his thumb through my wetness before slipping a finger into me. My palms push against the wall and I bite into his hand as he fucks me with his middle finger before adding another.
