“Doesn’t matter. I’ve got a good man in there. He knows what he’s doing. But I need to make sure that my idiot son and his wife don’t fuck this up for Valerie. That’s where you come in.”

Nodding my head like I’m not still reeling, I sink back in my seat.

“I don’t think she’ll agree to this no matter what you threaten her with.”

She lifts a brow. “Trust me. This will happen.” She turns to open the door. “I heard your friend inviting you out to the Hidey Hole tonight. Go. I’ll make sure that Valerie’s there tonight. Might as well get this ball in gear.”

Nodding, too out of it to do more than that, I watch her leave, wondering if I fell asleep and this is just some crazy dream.

It’s not a dream but it sure is fucking crazy. I start my truck and drive back to my place, a slow smile crossing my lips.

I don’t know if Hetty’s plan will work but one thing I know for certain. Valerie will be at the Hidey Hole tonight. And I’ll finally get to see her.

Surely she’ll finally talk to me. Maybe even let me apologize. While we’re dancing. Slow dancing.

My heart slams into my ribs. The thought of Valerie’s lush curves has my dick hard as a rock and I have to count to 100 before it actually settles down.

“Settle down, asshole. You’re never gonna get her back if you don’t cool it.”

One more chance. That’s all I’m asking for. Just one more chance to win the woman who refuses to even look at me, let alone talk to me.

One chance to make her mine. Forever.

CHAPTER3

Valerie

Stepping inside the bar, I wrinkle my nose at the stale air smell. When was the last time they used an air freshener in this place.

I don’t want to be here but my grandmother was insistent that I go out tonight. She had some mysterious plans and she wanted privacy.

I don’t believe her but you can’t call Hetty a liar. Not unless you want her to smack the shit out of you.

My head swivels right to left like it always does. Always looking for his dark head. The tall, muscular body that I know better than the back of my hand.

My heart settles down when I don’t see him here. I can stay and have a drink without the threat of running into my old flame.

I spot a couple of people I know on the other side of the room and head over when they wave wildly at me.

“Rebel! How are you?” I hug her and smile at her older sister. The redhead is just as polished and put together as if she’s standing in front of her classroom of eight year olds.

Rebel shakes out her long, stick-straight blond hair and grins sloppily. “Doing great, Val! How ‘bout you?”

Her sister rolls her eyes. “She’s fine. Just drinking off some steam. Her and this guy are so attracted to each other, they’re driving themselves nuts.”

Rebel glares at her older sister and snarls, “We are not attracted to each other! He’s an ass!”

Her sister doesn’t even flinch. “An ass with an ass that you keep comparing to a greek statue or something.” She rolls her eyes. “I cannot listen to any more of this. I’m going home. If you’re smart, you’ll head home too. In an uber.”

Rebel waves her off like she’s a tiny gnat. “Please. I can-can drive. I’m just gonna rest here for awhile.”

Then the door opens and Rebel’s face freezes in a snarl. It’s like seeing a tiny kitten disappearing and turning into a full-growl tiger. “What the hell is that man doing here?”

The tall, dark-haired man whips around to her immediately, like he’s been hit by lightning.

I stand up quickly. “I’ll catch you later, Rebel.”

She nods at me, never taking her eyes off the big man stalking up to her, his lips twisted into a mask of rage. Her bright eyes are practically shooting lasers and I’m surprised he hasn’t disappeared in a puff of smoke and fire.
