“I love you too.”
Releasing me he stretches for his clothes and pulls the shirt over his head before standing and putting on his pants.
Grabbing a pair of leggings and a shirt from my dresser, I quickly get dressed before brushing my wet hair and pulling it into a bun.
Standing at the door, I hesitate before reaching for the knob, nervous as to how everything is going to play out between Dante and the rest of my family.
“Go ahead,” he says quietly from behind me, “I’m good.”
Turning the knob, I step into the hallway and slowly walk down the stairs with Dante. Reaching the bottom, I can hear the majority of my family in the study. Dante’s hand reaches for mine and our fingers lace together as we head down the hallway.
“Glad to hear,” Ava pretends to stumble over her words with a stumble, “I mean see that you are feeling better.”
“Jesus Christ, Avalie,” I watch as Papa’s cheeks redden with embarrassment for the first time in my life, “Is this the kind of shit I’m going to have to deal with now? It was bad enough knowing it was happening, we have to fucking talk about it too?”
“Sorry Papa,” I glance at him, “we didn’t mean-.”
“What part of do we have to fucking talk about it does everyone not understand?”
Ava snickers at me as Papa fidgets in his seat. His current demeanor is like nothing I have ever seen – he is uncomfortable, embarrassed, and doesn’t know how to react to this situation.
The discomfort in the room increases ten-fold as Renzo walks into the room.
He looks at Dante and his brows furrow.
DANTE
“Fuck,” Lorenzo mumbles, “I’m assuming my sister didn’t do that to your face.”
“Renzo,” Ava huffs at him.
“Sorry,” he stumbles over his words, “I don’t do this. Generally, when I beat the piss out of someone or torture the fuck out them, they’re dead. So, I don’t have to apologize.”
“I heard V screaming while I was out for a run,” he shifts uncomfortably, “and when I stumbled upon the two of you, I naturally assumed the worst. Forgive me, I didn’t realize that the two of you were together. And it definitely didn’t dawn on me that my baby sister would be into being playing out rape fantasies in the woods.”
“Jesus fucking Christ, Renzo,” Sal shifts in his chair with a bright red face.
“In all seriousness,” Lorenzo walks towards me, “I’m sorry. I hope that someday we can manage to put this behind us.”
“Things might be weird for a while, but we’re good,” I reach out to shake his hand, “She’s lucky to have a family that loves and cares about her like all of you do.”
Renzo takes a seat next to Ava, and I turn my attention to Sal.
“Sir?”
“Have a seat, son,” he gestures for me to take a seat next to Venecia and she squeezes my hand as he talks, “I’m still fucking angry. But it was going to be someone eventually, and I’m happy it’s you. Happy it’s someone who would give their life for her like the rest of this of family would.”
Standing from his seat to refill his drink, he puts his hand on my shoulder as he walks past me, “And it’s not like I have any other daughters I have to worry about you knocking up.”
“Jesus, Papa,” Venecia huffs at him and the room fills with laughter.
Chapter Thirty
VENECIA
“Carlo,” I squeal running down the front steps.
He left a few days after I got home. He and Marco have been working with the Armenians for months trying to track down Karyan.
