After spending a few more minutes gathering my things, I head downstairs. Walking into the armory, I scan the walls determining what weapons to bring with me. Once I make my decisions, I grab a duffle bag from the wall. Walking back around the room, I fill it with Keltec KS7, Mossberg 930, two Sig Sauer P30s, a Glock 17, a few KA-BAR tactical knives, and enough ammunition to take out half the city.

If shit goes sideways, I plan to be prepared.

Just as I finish putting everything into the bag, Lorenzo walks in behind me.

“So,” he pauses, “what are your intentions with my sister?”

Fuck…

“My what,” I question, merely biding time to work out an answer that won’t get me killed.

“What are your intentions with Venecia,” he repeats his question.

I stare back at him. The only coherent thought running through my mind is that the correct answer is not, ‘bury my face in her pussy until her thighs won’t stop shaking.’

Yeah, that is definitely not the right answer.

“Where do you plan on taking her?” his voice a tad gruffer as he rephrases his question.

“Oh, yeah,” I flounder when I realize that was the question he was actually asking this whole time, “I was going to come and talk with you and Sal about that as soon as I was done here.”

“Sal’s tied up with some things, but now is a good a time as any for me.”

I follow him out of the armory, hoping that my inability to answer his simple question doesn’t raise any suspicions.

Dropping the duffle bag in the hall, we walk towards the study and each take a seat.

He stares at me for a moment, and I realize I should start talking.

“I know that the family has numerous safe houses in the city, but knowing what is about to happen here,” I pause as Lorenzo acknowledges that destruction that is about to take over this city, “I think it’s significantly safer to take her much further away.”

“Good,” Lorenzo nods his agreement, “I think that’s a good plan.”

“Considering Botticelli properties have been getting hit left and right, I also think it’s best for us to be somewhere not connected to the family.”

Lorenzo nods, giving his approval thus far.

“I was going to take her out of the city,” I pause momentarily waiting for his refusal.

When it doesn’t come, I continue, “My step father’s family has an old hunting cabin not far outside of Elmira. It’s secluded. It’ll be easy to protect.”

“Don’t let anyone else know where you’re going,” Lorenzo stands from his seat, “Reach out if you need anything. Otherwise, we’ll reach out to you when it’s safe to come back. And Dante, make sure you take good care of her.”

“I will.”

The only thing I actually worry about keeping her safe from is me. From everything else, I will protect her with my life.

Chapter Twelve

VENECIA

Promptly at three, there is a knock at my door.

He wasn’t fucking kidding.

My two bags are already packed and waiting by the door. Sitting up on the bed, I call out, “Yeah?”

The door opens and as expected, it is Dante.
