“Daddy,” I moan, when he lays out over my back, warming me through while also pushing me a bit further into the bed, but I like it.
“I love you, baby girl,” he whispers into my ear making me smile.
“I love you too, Johnnie. I love being with you, in your arms, in your home. I don’t want to be anywhere else to be honest.”
“Good girl,” he teases, tilting my head until he can steal my lips with a soft kiss.
“You don’t have to stay home with me, you know? I’m not going to freakout or try to run away. I don’t want to go back to my father’s anyway, especially not after almost a week of silence from me. I wouldn’t want to risk that confrontation—definitely wouldn’t risk it alone,” I add as he rolls me over, propping himself up on his side as he stares down at me with those gorgeous eyes of his.
“I want to be here with you, Carly. I’m not afraid my little bird’s going to fly off and never return. I know you’ll always come back to your cage now,” he says making my brow lift curiously at him with a grin.
“Your place only seems like a cage because I haven’t been outside it since I stepped foot inside.”
“That’s not your cage, baby girl,” he replies, a smile on his lips as he pats his chest, then opens his arms for me. “These are your cage, wrapped tight in my hold is the safest place for you. You can always come home to it, anywhere we are.”
“Johnnie…” I sigh his name before kissing him, smiling at the sweetness of his words and his actions. Especially when he moves us into the bathroom and washes me clean everywhere, before helping me dress in another lounge set. It’s cashmere just like the one Monday, but this set is off-white rather than the tan from that day, and the lounge bra and panties are the same color compared to the grey from Monday’s set.
“Where are you keeping these?” I ask, glancing up at him because I know the dresser in here is empty and there’s nothing in his closet either. I checked Tuesday after I woke up alone in bed and went searching for him or a note from him. He was in his home office, and he waved me in, pulling me onto his lap as he finished his phone call. From there, well…we definitely added his office to the list of rooms he’s made me come in.
“Alright,” he says, smiling as he holds out his hand and I slip mine into it, heading through our bedroom and out into the hall with him. He moves down three doors and pushes open the door of an empty room. There are some boxes on the floor, a treadmill and weight bench along one wall, but beyond that, it’s bare. “I intended to turn this into a gym but ended up just using the one downstairs instead when I learnt there weren’t any single women hanging around it, unlike at my old place.”
“Can’t blame women for wanting to see all that yumminess under your clothes, daddy,” I tease, running my hands along his impressive stomach under his tee. There’s no doubt he looks insanely hot in his suits but in jeans and tees…it’s no wonder women fall all over themselves to get close to him.
“So, you’d be fine with some woman coming over and trying to touch me while I work out?” Johnnie says, putting a scowl on my face instantly.
“I said see, not touch.”
“They wanted to touch, and I wasn’t hanging around for that shit. Only woman that gets to touch me is my baby girl, I promise,” he states, giving me a soft kiss that soothes my irritation. It fades entirely though when he opens the closet door, revealing what looks like a freaking explosion of color. Pink and purple and aqua bags that are from some of my favorite stores fill the floor, but hanging up along the bar are dozens of bra and underwear sets, including a replacement for the blue green one that he tore off me Friday night.
“Johnnie! What on earth…where…when…” My mouth drops open as I stare at him in shock. It simply grows more when I glance the other way and find a stack of shoe boxes with heels and wedges and flats and sneakers and slip-ons all in my size and style.
“I didn’t want to freak you out that first morning or worry that you’d grab something and try to run out on me if you knew it was all here,” he says, giving me a soft kiss making me sigh happily. “I saw the sizes on the set you dropped that day outside the store. Numbers stick with me, baby girl, and I just kept picturing you in those sexy little pieces and wanted you to have every single one of them that you wanted. So, I bought one of every color they had in your size. That first day, your tag was sticking out and after having my hands on you, knowing your lingerie sizes, the rest wasn’t hard to guess. I had most of this here Friday night, then added in things like the shoes after getting yours off you that night.”
“You wanted me here with you all that time?” I ask, stunned and amazed at what this man did. It might seem a little…stalkerish perhaps, but I’m not about to complain if it means he wants me to stay for good.
“I wanted you the first day I met you, at first, I thought it was just your sexy body I wanted wrapped around me, but I quickly knew it was more than that. You were meant to be mine and after seeing you scared, I knew nothing was going to keep me from finding you and making sure you were never frightened again, little bird. My family’s not known to hold back when we meet the person we’re meant to be with, spend our life with. I wasn’t able to keep you from never being scared again, but from here forward, I’ll protect you from everything I can, especially if it might scare you.”
“Is that why you won’t tell me where you went Monday night?” I ask holding his gaze, holding up a hand when he leans towards me. “Every time I try to talk to you about the deadline Brent gave me, you kiss me, distract me using your amazing mouth and body, and…ninety-nine percent of me loves you for doing it,” I add making his jaw relax as he pulls me up against his hard body. “I know you’re trying to protect me, but I need to know you’re going to be safe too. Is that why you haven’t gone to work? Do you, or someone else, think they’ll come after you there?”
I don’t argue when Johnnie picks me up, letting me wrap my legs around his waist and carries me downstairs with him. He settles us onto the couch before he gives me a super soft kiss. His hands hold my face gently, his big strong hands loving as they caress my skin, making my eyes close with the sweetness of his touch.
“Tell me, please daddy,” I whisper to him, pulling a groan from his lips as he pulls my body up against his chest, holding me tight.
“I spoke with a security firm that my brother uses for things, that he’s used to surveil Club One,” he explains surprising me with that fact. “I took your phone with me,” he adds, and my gaze flies up to his in surprise. “They were able to find the internal GPS data, find where you went the day you ‘lost’ the contract.”
“Why do you say it like that?” I ask, at his grunt of the word lost.
“You didn’t misplace it, or set it down and forgot it, baby girl. They were able to pull up the security footage from the smoothie shop, and it caught someone taking the folder from under your arm while you were paying. The same guy was seen when you went back into the shop to ask about the folder, as well as other cameras around town catching sight of him where you were as well. He was there when you dropped your bag of lingerie. He was close by when you had your little wardrobe malfunction,” he says, his eyes flashing with heat, but the anger burning in them overrides it with ease.
If I saw that anger in my father’s eyes, I know it’d be directed at me, but Johnnie…no, he’s not angry with me for anything, and that alone is heaven.
“I don’t understand. Why would he take the contract from me and follow me, or find me at those places?” I ask shaking my head as his hands soothe down my back.
“Because he saw you in Ellis’ building and decided he wanted you, but he wanted to play a game with you first. He’s a bad man, little bird,” Johnnie warns, his tone, his entire body tense, and I wrap my arms around him, holding him tighter in return. “He’s been following you for a bit, but it was hard because you don’t have any set schedule. You go where you want, when you want, and it made it difficult to track you. We think after so many near misses, he set up the meeting at the club because he could corner you there. He was there with Ellis that night, there’s video of him having a heated conversation with Ellis, and with you disappearing that night…we’re positive that’s why Ellis threatened you the way he did. He knows you can’t raise that kind of money before tonight, expects you to show up at his office to plead your case, and while there, this man can grab you, take you whether you want to go with him or not. That’s one of the reasons why I’ve kept you here with me. And they said there’s a possibility that they’ll connect us, so I should stay out of sight as well, but mostly, I’m here with you, next to you because that’s where I’m supposed to be, baby girl. I’m supposed to keep you safe, so you’re not getting rid of me that easily.”
“I don’t want you to be anywhere else but with me either,” I promise, sick to my stomach to think another man out there wants me the way Johnnie does. There’s no way I could be with someone other than Johnnie, not a chance. “But I know you have to work…”
Johnnie’s laugh stopped my words, and I stared up at him in question. “I own the penthouse, baby girl. At least for now. I think we should look for a house of our own though, make sure we’re settled into it before you have our baby.”
