“Really?” The word comes out on a squeal, excited beyond words to think of having a house of my own, having a real home.

“Yeah, as soon as this is all handled, we have a date at the courthouse with a judge.”

“Huh?” His smile grows at my confusion, until my jaw drops as he presses a kiss to the ring finger of my left hand. “You mean…”

“I’m never letting you go, little bird. I want you to be my baby girl for life, to be your daddy, our babies’ daddy, and you to be their mama. For mama and daddy to be joined together in every way possible, including legally,” he says, making my heart race wildly. “I’m going to ask you the question at the right time, just know, it’s coming.”

“I love you, so freaking much,” I sigh, resting in his arms as his hands soothe up and down my back more.

“I love you too, baby girl, and don’t think I forgot what we were talking about either,” he teases, pressing a kiss to my temple. “I own this place and even if I don’t sell it before we find a house, I can still buy the house outright and not have to work if I don’t want to. My family has money, plenty of it. Each of us has a trust that we could live off of if we didn’t want to work, but I like working, and I work for my family’s business. I’m CFO for it, so there’s nothing to worry about if I miss a few days. My brothers and sister that work with me know what’s going on, so they’re not going to be upset that I’m not in the office. The few times I’ve been in my office is because they had questions, and it was something I could handle from here. Honestly, a lot of it I could handle from home if I needed even if they need my signature on something since the office is downtown here, just a few minutes away.”

“So, you’re not going to get in trouble for staying with me?”

The shake of his head calms me more and I curl up on his lap, listening to his steady heartbeat beneath my ear. It soothes me into a nap and when I wake, I see him sitting down his phone before he grabs the TV remote.

“Everything okay?” I ask as he flips to a local channel.

“That was a text from the people handling this shit for us,” he answers, then turns up the volume as the image of an unknown man comes up on the screen. The FBI Most Wanted poster makes my eyes widen and I glance up at Johnnie in question. “He won’t ever touch you now, baby girl.”

“That’s the man that…” I stop talking entirely when the video changes as the reporter mentions ‘in related news’ before a video of Brent being marched out of his office in handcuffs plays, as the reporter tells people that he was arrested in conjunction with Paul McKay, and that the FBI tied the two together in multiple child exploitation and human trafficking cases. The added note that many other employees of Brent’s company were also arrested due to their involvement has my eyes flowing up to Johnnie as my breathing tightens.

“I’m sorry, baby girl. Your father was one of them,” he says gently, and I turn my face into his chest, trying to stop the laughter from falling free. “Shit, Carly, please don’t cry baby. I can’t stand seeing you cry,” he pleads, his hands sliding down to lean me back from him.

“I’m not…” I promise as the relieved laughter takes over, and I don’t begin to argue when Johnnie’s arms wrap tightly around me, just holding me, letting me get it out as he explains fully what happened Monday night, and how they intended to draw out McKay.

I’m about to beg him to take me back to bed when his phone goes off, and he tells them to let the person onto the elevator. It makes me curious, then nearly drop to the floor when I see Chloe moving off the thing along with several other official looking men.

“Thank god,” Chloe says, wrapping me up in a tight hug. “I was so worried about you! I didn’t hear from you all weekend, you hadn’t been on any of your pages, no new uploads, nothing! Then some big guy knocks on my door super late Monday night, saying he was with some security company, and another guy with an FBI badge is there, telling me you’re in danger and they wanted to move me in case someone came after me to try to lure you out! What the hell is going on?”

“Easy doll,” a certainly big guy says moving up behind her, and I glance from her to him when Chloe blushes at my long stare.

“This is Kent,” she mumbles as he wraps an arm around her waist, and I can’t stop the smile from hitting my lips seeing the look that slides across her face as she turns her head into his chest.

“I think this makes us even now rather than me owing you one for your help with that video,” Johnnie says giving Kent a smirk.

“Might owe you one now,” Kent replies and I laugh as Johnnie pulls me back against his chest as Chloe blushes redder.

A voice clears from behind us, and I quickly learn the rest of the group are the FBI and security team that helped take down Brent and McKay thanks to everything with me and my phone. I smile fully while Chloe and I talk as the men finish up in the dinning area, promising her that I’m good—better than good with Johnnie.

“Kent said you were fine, that he knew you were safe and with someone that wouldn’t let anything hurt you, but I was still worried,” Chloe says, and I hugged her again, knowing I’d be the same in her position.

“Honestly, other than once Friday night, once Saturday and then my complete freakout Monday, Johnnie’s kept me otherwise occupied and just…happy,” I admit, knowing my face is likely as red as Chloe’s was earlier.

“Good, Kent told me he’s got money to keep you safe and seeing this, I definitely believe it, so I’m not going to harp on the fact that you’re staying with a man you barely know.”

“Not when you’re doing the same?” I tease, making her laugh, and we catch up until the men are finished, and I promise to come see her soon, talk to her as soon as I get a new phone since mine’s now apparently evidence in the case.

Johnnie promises he has one for me, he was just waiting for this to be finished for me to start using it, and I let him take me back upstairs for the rest of the day, and the next. Saturday morning, he wakes me with a kiss, before pulling me into the shower, telling me we’ve got somewhere to be.

I’m not about to argue and I pull on a new outfit, loving the way the sweater clings to my curves but isn’t itchy at all. I pair it with some leggings and little black booties, blushing a bit when Johnnie lets out a whistle when I come out of the bathroom.

“Fuck I knew you’d look like a goddess in these,” he growls, giving me a kiss before hurrying me to the door and down the stairs. He grabs up a jacket for me and I shake my head giving him a grin.

“I love when the weather starts turning chilly, usually I’m good without a jacket until it gets cold, and it hasn’t been that bad out so far this year.”

“I’ll bring it with us in case you change your mind,” he says, tossing it over his arm along with his own, before handing over my normal purse making my brows lift in surprise as the elevator moves downward. “The FBI dropped it off. They used it with their operation since they were able to see you with it often in pictures and I confirmed it was the one you always had when I ran into you as well. I had them grab your other one as well from my office where I had it, and I put what was in it, in that one for you to go through later. I wasn’t sure about bank accounts and all that.”

“My father had threatened to cut me off so none of them likely work anyway,” I muse.
