“But it’s still about me. They hurt Clementine to get to me. What if—what if they go after Mags? Or Jessie?”
“Jessie is with Ghost,” Silver said. “And I sent someone to protect Maggie.”
“Thank you.”
Shadows exploded through the room. Not aggressive, but overwhelming, washing over us. All at once the blacknesslifted, soaring through the ceiling. Magic shuddered through the air and the building groaned under the force of the power.
“What the hell was that?”
“Let’s go,” Silver said, not answering my question. He led the way, and they all moved, Grave holding me and carrying me with them. Into the elevator, where there was a new button. A fourth floor.
The doors opened on an apartment I’d never seen, and that I was pretty sure hadn’t existed until thirty seconds ago. This wasn’t the same as the other apartments. There were comfy chairs and pillows and a bed which took up the majority of the space.
Definitely magic, because there wasn’t a mattress manufacturer in the world that made one that big.
I saw a door into a kitchen, but other than that, it seemed like a single open space.
“None of our beds are big enough for all of us,” Silver said. “We all need our own space, but we also need to share. There’s not a chance in hell any of us are leaving you tonight.”
Rumbles of agreement all around.
Grave laid me down on a pile of plush pillows before stripping his shirt over his head. Comet beat him to it, already naked, pulling me into his body and tangling our legs together.
“Is everything okay?” I asked. “Are we safe? Is everyone else safe?”
“Patrols are set,” Grave said. His job was to protect the MC when they were on the road. Watch their backs. But that responsibility bled over to protecting them everywhere. “If we’re needed, they can call us and we’ll be there in minutes. But things are handled.”
“Sleep, gorgeous,” Comet whispered into my hair. “You’re safe with us, and you always will be.”
I didn’t know if it was magic or exhaustion, but I faded down into darkness.

COMET
BETWEEN HONOR AND GOODNESS
Skyla relaxed into sleep, body softening against mine. I didn’t feel guilty about using my magic to help her under. Myâmmelunewas worked up. The tears on her face and the broken sounds she made weren’t ones I ever wanted to hear again.
“What happened?” I asked. Everything had been chaos, and Silver was the one who’d seen it.
“She saw Clementine and bolted out of the gate. Exactly like they fucking wanted her to. The only reason she’s not gone is because they weren’t Legion members.”
I held her tighter.
Everyone who attacked us was dead, as they should be.
“What’s the plan?”
Silver shook his head. “We don’t have proof. We’ll see what they do when they find the bodies.”
“I was right.” Grave sat against the wall and crossed his arms. “They guys are pissed we’re not going to attack them.”
“Let them be pissed,” Silver snarled. “I’m not risking their lives or her life for something we can’t prove. But start putting things in place. Both of you.” He nodded to Wraith and Grave. “Make sure we have enough weapons. Specific to warlocks, as well as human weapons. Coat bullets with belladonna. The preparations alone should calm them down.”
I frowned. “Are we planning an assault?”
