After the final tremors of her orgasm, she wraps her arms around me and buries her face in my neck. I feel her tears just before I feel her body tremble against me, and the first sob slips past her lips.
I swallow past the burn in my throat then reach for the blanket next to us and cover her. Even though I want to stay buried in her, I lift her off me, but make sure to keep her close, then lay us down while bringing the top half of her body on top of mine. I hold her tight and don’t say anything, knowing there is nothing I can say to change what happened, but fuck do I ever wish there was. If I could go back and gut those motherfuckers all over again I would.
Turning her face, she presses her wet lips to my jaw. “I love you, Cade Walker. You heal my soul in so many ways.”
“I wish your soul didn’t need healing,” I tell her honestly.
“It doesn’t anymore, thanks to you.”
I flip her to her back and press a hard kiss to her mouth before resting my forehead against hers. “You trust me, right? You know I won’t let anything happen to you like that again. Not ever.”
She smiles at me softly and cups my face, “Yes, I do. No one makes me feel safer than you, not even my father or papa.”
I’d be lying if I said that didn’t make me feel pretty fucking awesome. I may not be good at a lot of things but protecting her is something I can do.
“Speaking of my father…” she trails off and watches me carefully. I don’t miss the anxiousness that’s now evident in her gaze. “I’ve been thinking about Christopher’s birthday supper and who to invite. Of course I plan to invite our friends, but…obviously, I want my family there too.”
I tense, knowing where she’s going with this, and feel like a complete dick when she notices the reaction, her expression turning sad.
“I want you to meet my father, Cade, and he wants to meet you too. He’s a good man, the best I’ve ever known next to you and my papa.”
The thought of being in the same room with a man who preaches the very fucking thing I loathe sends rage to rush through my veins.
“Can’t you just give him a chance? For me, please?”
Well fuck, how am I supposed to say no when she asks me like that? I stare into her hopeful eyes and blow out a breath, “Yeah, baby.”
She smiles then gives me a soft kiss. “Thank you. I promise you will like him.”
I wouldn’t be so sure about that…
“And you will really like my papa, he’s a lot like the three of you guys. He says the ‘f’ word a lot.” She giggles her cute little giggle.
“I’m sure we will get along fine.”
“You will with my father too. You’ll see.”
When I don’t say anything, she cups the side of my face. “I know this is hard for you. So thank you for giving him a chance.”
“I will give you anything you ask for, Red, if I’m capable of it.”
“I want you.”
“You have me, baby. You have for the last two years.”
She smiles and starts running her hands across my chest, giving extra attention to my nipple rings, bringing my dick roaring to life. “Good. Then show me.”
Not thinking twice about it, I drive inside of her, my cock already hard for her again. She sucks in a breath and her fingers dig into my shoulders. I still, waiting for her to give me the go-ahead. “Yes, and don’t stop.”
So I didn’t. I drove into her over and over again, not knowing where she ended and I began. I made sure she knew exactly who she belonged to and I didn’t stop until she screamed my name. And the entire time all I could do was hope that I never lost this, that I never lost her, because I know I would never survive it if I did.
CHAPTER 26
Faith
A few days later, Ruthie and I are in the kitchen getting ready to decorate Christopher’s birthday cake for Saturday when Cade comes walking in the door earlier than usual.
Like always, my heart skips a beat at the first glance of him, awareness seeping into every part of my body. I quickly notice he does not look happy… well more unhappy than usual.
“Hey, big guy!” Ruthie greets him while licking the spoon that’s covered with chocolate cake mixture.
“Hey, kid,” he replies easily before looking at me. “Where’s Christopher?”
“What do you mean? Isn’t he with you?”
He shakes his head. “No. He never showed up at the gym and he’s not answering his cell phone.”
My heart starts thumping wildly in fear, every awful image plaguing me at what could have happened to him, but before I can go into panic mode the front door flies open and Christopher comes storming in, looking furious. He slams the door so hard I jump from the loud bang.
“Hey,” I greet him carefully.
Before I can ask what’s wrong, Cade starts in on him, “Where the hell have you been?”
“Out,” he replies, throwing his backpack across the living room.
“What do you mean out? You’re supposed to be at the gym.”
“Yeah, well, something came up.”
“Then you call me, damn it, or at least pick up your phone. That’s the reason why we bought it for you.”
“Fine, here!” Christopher reaches in his pocket and throws his phone at Cade, which he thankfully catches, then turns his attention to me, “And you can take back the stupid outfit you bought me for the dance since I’m not going anymore.”
“What?” He doesn’t respond and heads toward the stairs but I grab his arm before he can escape. “What do you mean you aren’t going? Why not?”
“Because Alissa’s mom isn’t letting her go with me. She’s making her go with that asshole Ryan!”
“What?” I repeat in shock. “But why?”
“What do you mean, why? Because it’s me!” he screams furiously. Although his words come out in anger, the pain pouring from his expression completely breaks my heart. “I told you this would happen, but you don’t ever fucking listen to me!”
