It hadn’t been difficult to put two and two together and find out that his so-called business was little more than a shell company for illegal activities, and it wasn’t the only one he had.
He didn’t work.
He frauded and laundered money that was obtained illegally.
Which was why Ariel was little more than a go-to woman for him to run ragged on personal errands.
He hadn’t wanted a real assistant.
He’d been trolling for a woman to torment when he’d found her.
We’d uncovered a lot more than we’d expected, which had been turned over to the authorities.
I’d told Ariel about it soon after she’d come to work for me, but I hadn’t been able to give her any kind of real update until after she’d kicked Brock’s ass last night.
Shortly, Leland Brock would be serving so much time that he’d probably never get out of prison.
That’s probably the only thing that had kept me from disabling the asshole the night before so he would never be a threat to Ariel again.
Well, that and the fact that she’d kicked his assherself.
I grinned as I thought about how Ariel had, once again, gone after what she wanted, and what she’d wanted at that moment was Leland Brock on the ground howling with pain.
Obviously, shehadharbored a lot of suppressed anger.
It had taken everything I had to pause for even a few seconds when I’d seen him trying to hurt Ariel. But in the end, it had been worth the brief hesitation to see my girl demolish her previous tormentor.
I can wait a few more days until the piece of shit is in jail.
The problem was, in the meantime, it was driving me insane that Ariel was alone at night.
I wouldn’t put it past Brock to retaliate because Ariel had humiliated him.
Yeah, she lived in a second story apartment, which she reminded me about every time I told her to be careful.
I also had my own security outside her apartment, which she’d told me was unnecessary. The only reason she’d finally relented was because she knew it would make me feel better.
Nevertheless, I dreamed about Brock taking revenge, and it was definitely not pleasant.
I wanted her here, in my bed, draped over my body naked and completely sated as she slept.
It was about the only thing that was going to give me any peace.
“Shit!” I cursed as I looked at the clock and realized I’d only been asleep for an hour.
It was a little after one.
I’d crashed as soon as I’d gotten home from dinner with Ariel earlier.
I glanced at my phone and snatched it when I realized I had a few text messages from Ariel.
Ariel:Are you awake?
Ariel:Never mind. You must be asleep and you need to get some rest. It’s nothing. You don’t need to text me back.
Something definitely wasn’t right.
Ariel never texted me late at night, and those messages had just been sent twenty minutes ago.
