“How’s it going Pam!”

“Hey, you!” she says adding extra girly, musical tones to her voice. The way Jake’s eyes twinkle, there seems to be something brewing. He finally breaks free from her spell and talks to me.

“So, Brooke, can I talk to you about the project, just need five minutes.”

“Can this wait? I mean we are on the plane, most of my notes are in my carryon.”

“Oh, you won’t need your notes for this.”

“Really?”

I have a feeling what Jake is going to ask me.

“Yeah.”

His whole body is in begging mode. It’s that same posture he gets when he asks me to pick him a Deli sandwich which is in the opposite direction of my lunch place.

I get up and follow him to the restroom area. The glass of wine is still in my hand. He looks back to where I was sitting and waves at Pam. “Brooke I need a favor.”

“Really?” I am having fun playing with him. It’s obvious what he wants.

“Can you switch seats with me?”

I laugh. “Why? Does it have anything to do with Pam?”

He holds up his hands in a ‘you got me,’ manner. “Alright, yes, I want to sit next to her.”

“Sure, why the hell not. She’s into you.”

“Did she say anything interesting?”

“Something about hot chocolate and you being funny.”

His whole face is happy from his eyes to his goofy grin. “Cool, cool, just tell the flight attendant that you are on A2.”

“I thought you were sitting with Jessica?”

“No, she has this thing with claustrophobia, so she needs to look out of the window. So, I gave her my window seat, and you are getting where she was originally supposed to sit.”

“Which is next to…” I am dreading his response. His face looks like he had been withholding some information.

“I mean you probably know someone else from Elysian.”

“Jake…” I want him to say it, but I don’t want to hear it.

“Okay fine it’s Ethan Knight.”

“What!”

“It’s no big deal, did you know that he is actually a great guy on the inside?”

“Then why don’t you go sit with him, if you love him that much!” I am panicking. The thought of sitting next to Mr. Grump for the next seven hours is suddenly turning this relaxing journey into a tense situation.

“Jake, I don’t know, I mean… you should have been upfront.”

“I was, I was building up to it…”

“Jake, I can’t sit next to our Boss for seven hours. He hardly smiles.”
