“Yeah. I’ll stop by after my morning meeting and check on you.”

“You don’t have to do that,” she tells me, already standing to gather her things.

“I want to. Let me know if you need anything.”

She nods, stepping back onto the elevator as my first client steps off. I frown as I watch the doors close and she disappears. I’ll need to fix whatever happened, but I guess it will have to wait until later.

I greet the client and show them into my office. I try hard to focus on them, but when the meeting is over, I’m relieved. I try to call Goldie, but she doesn’t answer, and I drag my hands down my face.

“Trouble in paradise?” Theo asks as he drops down into a chair across from my desk.

“Yes.”

The elevator opens, and Levi steps off, smiling as he wanders into my office.

“I was just coming to see if you wanted to grab lunch. Did we have a meeting that I forgot about?” He asks as he takes the other chair.

“No, I came down for the same thing and found him in here crying,” Theo says.

“I wasn’t crying.”

“Pretty close,” he grumbles, and I roll my eyes.

“Trouble with Goldie?” Levi asks, and I nod.

“Yeah, but I don’t know what. Everything was perfect. We were hanging out, going out on dates, she came to my place, and I went to hers. I thought that we were finally on the same page.”

“Maybe you’re not that good in bed,” Theo offers, and I flip him off.

“That’s definitely not it,” I tell him.

“Did you say something?” Levi asks, and I wrack my brain for everything that happened yesterday but come up blank.

“No, and she was fine last night when I last saw her.”

“Where is she now?” He asks.

“She wasn’t feeling well so I sent her home.”

“Oh,” he says, relieved. “Well, that must be it. She’s just not feeling good. She’ll be better tomorrow, and everything will go back to normal.”

Levi sounds so sure about that, but what does he know? He’s never had a serious relationship. He’s been set up on like two dates over the years, and I’m pretty sure he still doesn’t realize they were dates. The guy has lived and breathed computers and software programs for as long as I’ve known him. Nothing else really interests him.

“Maybe.”

“That has to be it. Or maybe it’s not you at all. Maybe she had a fight with a friend or her mom or something,” Theo says as he leans back in his chair.

“I guess. She went out with her friends last night, but she didn’t mention a fight.”

Theo shrugs, and I sigh.

“I need a pick me up. Let’s go up to Theo’s office and watch Theo and Clara flirt fight,” I suggest.

Theo glares at me, but Levi laughs.

“I’m starving. Let’s go grab something to eat at the deli across the street,” he says.

“I’m in. I need to try to text or call Goldie again and see if she needs anything first.”
