Could that be it? I was working so hard not to go overboard or tell her that I’ve been head over heels since the moment that I met her. Maybe I went too far in the other direction.

“If that’s the case, then it should be easy enough to clear up. I’ll just tell her that I love her and want to only be with her.”

“Yeah, you might be overcorrecting,” he tells me, and I groan.

I prop my elbows on my knees and drop my head into my hands.

“Why is dating so complicated?”

“Maybe it’s just the way that you’re doing it,” Theo says behind me, and I roll my eyes.

“It’s not just me. I wish I could skip over all of this and just ask her to marry me already,” I complain.

“Okay, now you’re definitely overcorrecting,” Levi says.

Theo drops down into the chair next to me.

“Why are you here?” I ask him.

“I needed a break from Clara. She’s driving me crazy.”

“Crazy with love,” I mumble, and he glares at me.

“No.”

“Right. Well, we’re brainstorming ways for Adrien to win Goldie back.”

“That’s easy. Build a case and then go present it to her. She seems like a logical person. That will get through to her,” Theo says like it’s obvious.

Maybe it is that simple, and I’ve just been going about this the wrong way. Maybe I’m so sleep-deprived that I’m not thinking clearly, and I’m just making this harder than it has to be.

“I guess,” I say, and he nods.

“You look terrible, by the way,” he tells me, and I huff out a laugh.

“I’m headed home to get some sleep. I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”

“Good luck,” Levi says, and I nod, waving as I head back to the elevator.

I ride down to the lobby, sending a company-wide email as I go down to let everyone know that I’ll be out for the rest of the day.

I text my driver, and he pulls up as I walk outside.

“To Ms. Goldie’s place, sir?” Patrick asks, and I hesitate.

I want to see her so badly, but I’ll probably only get one chance with her, and should be at my best.

“No, Patrick. Just take me home.”

“Yes, sir.”

We pull away from the curb, and I close my eyes, trying to relax enough to get some sleep.

It doesn’t work.
