I should be dating this guy. For real.
The man kisses me until I’m breathless, and we both break apart, sucking in a deep breath. I blink my eyes open, a smile tugging at my lips.
Until I look up and lock eyes with Adrien.
My smile drops, and I groan long and low. His brown hair is still mussed from my fingers running through it, and his lips are all red and swollen from claiming my mouth.
“Goddamnit,” I hiss, and he grins. “You?”
“That’s right, Goldie. Me. And you never have to apologize for kissing me. You can do it anytime that you want,” he tells me with a cocky smile, and I growl at him.
“No thanks,” I grumble as I duck out around him and stride across the lobby to where Lottie is staring at me with wide eyes.
The guy that she was talking to is long gone, and I force a smile to my lips as I greet her.
“Hey! Where did your friend go?” I ask her.
“Friend? Oh, he wasn’t a friend. He just asked me for a good lunch spot,” she says.
Fucking hell. So, I just kissed my boss to get out of being set up by Lottie, and she wasn’t even setting me up?
This is bad. This is really, really bad.
I glance back over my shoulder, just a peek, and close my eyes in pain when I see Adrien still standing there, smirking at me knowingly.
“Speaking of friends,” Lottie says, emphasizing friends, and I groan.
“Let’s go to lunch.”
“Sure, we can talk about you making out with your boss in the middle of the lobby of your building over lunch,” she says, linking her arm with mine.
I groan as we head out onto the sidewalk. I have a feeling that this is going to be a very painful lunch. I’m dreading what happens when I go back to work even more, though.
FOUR
Adrien
It’s finally happened.I mean, not how I ever imagined it would, but Goldie and I finally kissed. In fact, she kissed me.
And then walked away.
I chew on my bottom lip as I watch her and her best friend disappear onto the busy sidewalk. I’m not sure what to do now. I only came down here to get a sandwich from the shop in the lobby.
Wait, would she have kissed someone else if I hadn’t been there?
I grind my teeth together at the thought of her kissing someone else the way that she just kissed me.
This has to change things. I know that she felt the sparks between us when we kissed. She wanted me, and there’s no denying that. This has to be the start of something between us. I’ll make sure of that.
I head over to the sandwich stand and grab a club sandwich and a bottle of water before I head back to the elevator. I should go back to my office to eat and then figure out a game plan on what to do with Goldie now.
I should make a reservation for us for dinner tonight. Or maybe I should cook for her instead. That might be more intimate.
I hit the button for the top floor, taking a swig of my water as I ride up to Theo’s floor. His employees are scrambling today, racing all over the place in their fancy suits. I march past them and head down the short hallway to Theo’s office.
“Hey, Clara. Is he busy?” I ask her.
“Yep, go ahead and go on in,” she says with an evil grin.
