They both know all of it. Everything the Leviathan king said to me. What the markings mean. The dangers of the crown placed on my monstrous head.

How the fuck am I going to fix this? What if I become a monster for good? What if I end up killing someone? Killing them all?

And what of the others? As I lie here sleeping, what is Rhea doing? And Lucca? All of them back home. Did they survive the fight?

‘Oh, how I have missed waking up to your inner turmoil,’ Cyrus mutters beside me.

‘You can’t feel my emotions,’ I remind him. ‘We’re not Bonded anymore.’

‘That’s the worst thing you’ve ever said to me.’

His arm tightens as he settles closer.

‘You okay?’ he mumbles.

‘Hmm. You?’

‘Headache,’ he grumbles sleepily. ‘And some mild internal bleeding from the trip over here. Go back to sleep.’

I sit, making them both groan.

‘I need to wash.’ As I stand, smoke wraps around my waist and holds me in place. It’s infuriating not to have anything physical to pry off me. ‘I really need to pee, Cyrus.’

‘There’s no toilet or bathroom here, Princess. You’re blind, and one wrong step will have you plummeting to your death.’

I look in his general direction.

‘I missed that glare,’ he laughs. ‘I feel it like fire.’

‘You’ll feel something if-’

Reid’s hand covers my mouth.

‘Shhh,’ he says sleepily. ‘Headache. Cyrus, take her for a piss and get her to eat something, would you? I need another half an hour.’

‘I always get the fun jobs,’ he groans, helping me to my feet.

He guides me deeper into the cave and directs me to a space he says I can pee.

After relieving myself, we return to the cave. I’m sat down and given some cooked fish as he inspects my wrist.

‘Move your fingers for me?’

I do.

‘Good job. Pain one to ten?’

‘Four, maybe.’

‘You heal fast. Good to know.’

‘Think I’ll regrow my eyeballs?’

He clears his throat and busies himself.

‘Take that as a no.’

‘Morning, Little Bird,’ Reid greets, kissing my forehead and helping himself to some of my fish as he sits beside me. ‘How are you feeling?’
