When I buck him off and roll atop him, he tenses, ready to protect himself. To fight me off.

I slam my lips on him, claiming his mouth possessively. He lies beneath me, eyes open and wary.

This worked with Reid. My power calmed. My control grew. I need control now!

As I kiss him, I feel it calming. It senses him. And for some hateful reason, his presence soothes it. It relaxes the dark power inside. The room stops trembling, leaving a cloud of dust to fall all around us.

And Cyrus is right there for it. His hand clamps down on my neck, holding me in place. I meet his violent kiss with the same ferocity, spurred on by anger and hate. And a lust so consuming I could scream.

His hands grab and caress all over my body. His tongue glides over mine as his hot breath fills my mouth.

I clamp my teeth down on his lip and hold him there, piercing his skin.

My heart misses a beat as I taste him.

It’s not metallic. Not filled with iron.

It’s sweet. So sweet and utterly morish that it takes me entirely by surprise.

He opens his eyes, and they shine with that dark lust I know so well. His hand glides up to my body and rests at my throat. He wraps his fingers around it one by one, then squeezes.

I smirk, still refusing to let go. So he squeezes harder.

My tongue flicks up the bead of blood that falls from his lip before I relinquish my bite, and his mouth hitches in the corner.

His legs wrap around my waist before he rolls on top of me and nudges himself between my legs.

‘Good to see you haven’t changed completely. Still love my hand around your throat, don’t you, Princess?’

His hard and throbbing cock digs in between my legs.

‘I think I will keep you here with me,’ he says darkly. ‘Keep you buried under the Seventh Kingdom, hidden from the world, and all for me.’

My ears are ringing as he keeps the pressure on my airway, making me high and dizzy.

‘I forgot how pretty you are when you’re at my mercy.’ He leans down as my lashes flutter. ‘My Queen. Tell me. Would you like to breathe?’

‘Fuck… you…’ I manage.

‘If you insist.’

He lets me go and claims my mouth as I gasp in much-needed air between kisses.

He yells furiously as he’s hurled away from me by something that moved so fast it was just a blur.

I sit and look across the room to see Tessa on top of Cyrus, pounding her fist into his face.

But Cyrus… he just lies there, taking it all. He makes no effort to stop her. She’s no real match for him. None whatsoever. He doesn’t even look at her. He only looks at me.

Only when Tessa takes out a blade and goes to pierce Cyrus’s heart does he shove her off. She soars across the room and slams into the wall before falling on her arse on the other side of the cave. Calmly, Cyrus gets to his feet and wipes the blood from his face.

‘Sorry, Tessa. But the only person that gets to kill me is my Mate,’ he says, wiping blood from his face and looking at her with the same distaste and trust he always did. ‘You’re still alive then. I thought Ezra left you for dead in the gutter.’

‘He did. I’m just not that easy to kill.’

‘Cockroaches never are,’ Cyrus snarls back. His black smoke simmers behind his eyes, turning them as dark as death. ‘Get away from my Mate, Tessa. You’ve caused her enough damage.’

Tessa scoffs. ‘Icaused her damage? I have to syphon off the pain you two left her with every damn day.’
