I narrow my eyes. “Good. And no more investigating me, got it?”
He chuckles. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”
I sigh heavily, hating that I have to rely on this guy to get my answers. He’s a douchebag, and he has no allegiance to me, which is risky. “I’ll wait for your call,” I say, before turning and heading out of his rundown shack of a house.
All I can think about is my wife and the fact she’s waiting at home for me. My cock pulses to life and I know that I need to have her now before I go insane, and yet it’s a two hour drive home. Swallowing hard, I try to still my rage at the thought and get into my car with one destination in mind. Gwendolyne’s perfect little cunt.
* * *
I storm into my house, still pumped and angry about learning that the detective has no answers. Not to mention, if I don’t get back out to sea soon, I’m going to lose my shit, and yet I don’t trust hiring a boat. It’s too risky, as I have too many enemies in the city. So for now my wife is going to have to be my salvation.
“Where’s Gwendolyne?” I ask one of my staff, whose name I can’t remember.
He pales. “I-I’m sorry, sir. I haven’t seen her.”
“At all?” I snap, clenching my fists by my side.
He shakes his head. “Not since this morning.”
My eyes narrow, a sense of foreboding skating across the back of my mind. If Gwendolyne escaped, I’d kill every member of my security team. Heading for the kitchen, I’m sure Rosa, my cook, would have seen her during the day.
As I turn the corner toward it, I hear her voice coming from the kitchen—A sweet and beautiful sound that I’ll never get tired of hearing.
“I’m going to go out of my mind trapped in here,” she says.
I creep closer to the doorway, eavesdropping on the conversation she’s having.
Someone sighs. “Is it much different from when you lived at home?”
Tilly.
I don’t know what it is about that girl, but she is hanging around Gwendolyne more than I would like.
“At least I was allowed to go out when I was at home. Albeit with a bodyguard, but still...”
“Maybe you can go outside for a bit to the beach? I’m sure one of the guards would be alright with it if I’m with you.”
I’ve heard enough of this shit.
I storm into the room. “Gwendolyne is forbidden from leaving this house, do you understand?” My angry gaze lands on Tilly.
Her eyes widen. “Certainly, sir. I apologize.”
“You work for me, which means you follow my rules.” I glance at Rosa, who is busying herself with cooking, but I sense that’s only because I turned up. “That goes for everyone who works for me. I don’t want anyone taking my wife out of these fucking walls, understood?”
Gwendolyne stands then. “Do you realize I’m right here?” Her nostrils flare as she glares at me. “Are you going to keep me a prisoner in this house forever?”
I tilt my head. “Not forever, just until I’m sure I can trust you not to run away.”
Her eyes narrow to slits. “Which will be never.”
I shake my head. “You and I both know you don’t want to go back to your old life.”
Tilly clears her throat and stands, drawing my attention to her. “I will continue my work, sir. Again, I apologize for suggesting I take Gwen outside. It won’t happen again.”
I clench my jaw and nod.
She leaves and I notice Gwen watch her go with an odd expression. I don’t know what is going on with those two, but I intend to find out.
