No Hawk, though.
And most important, no Jade.
Before we got here, I instructed Hawk to prioritize Jade's safety over all else. Not just because I care--which I do--but because, if she was threatened, me and Fallon would break in a heartbeat, and we know too much for that.
But like this...? We can keep our secrets.
No matter how much it hurts.
My head is pounding and my mouth is dry as I try to recall how we ended up in this predicament. We were ambushed...because somehow, Matthias Winslow knew we were coming. I remember Jade's face when she saw the video of him, leering at us and mocking our ignorance.
I don't remember much after that. Just a blinding pain in my head and then darkness.
And now we're here, in this concrete prison, with no idea how we can get out. Fuck, I don't even know if we're still at the Winslow compound or if we've been taken to another ACB facility.
I try to move my wrists, but the ropes are too tight. I can feel the blood pooling in my fingers, making them numb. Fallon stirs beside me, groaning softly. I turn to him, wishing I could nudge him awake but only able to use my voice.
"Come on, man. Wake up."
He blinks blearily, looking around in confusion before his green eyes focus on me. "What the hell happened?" he mutters, his voice hoarse.
"We got ambushed," I tell him, gritting my teeth against the throbbing pain in my head. "Winslow knew we were coming."
Fallon curses under his breath. "Where's Hawk?"
"I don't know," I admit, glancing around the room again. "But we need to figure out a way to get out of here."
Easier said than done, of course. I strain against my restraints, trying to find a weak spot or a way to loosen the ropes. But they're tight, too tight, and I can feel the skin on my wrists chafing raw.
Fallon tries to move his legs, but the ropes around his ankles are just as unforgiving. "Give me a second..."
I can hear him shifting, see the concentration on his face. I don't doubt he can get out of this, then he can free me and we can get the hell out of here.
But then I hear a sound behind us--then footsteps.
And who comes around in front of us but Matthias goddamn Winslow.
I growl at the memory of Jade's scars, enraged at how this man hurt my mate.
Winslow smirks as he looks at us, his eyes gleaming with a mix of amusement and malice. "Well, well, well. Look who's awake," he says, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
I grit my teeth, refusing to give him the satisfaction of a response. Fallon, on the other hand, doesn't have the same restraint as me.
"What do you want?" he snarls, his eyes narrowed.
Winslow chuckles. "What do I want? I feel like that should be obvious--I want my daughter back."
I can feel Fallon tense beside me, his muscles straining against the ropes. "She's not a bargaining chip."
Winslow snorts. "That's exactly what she is. I understand you're the lowest sort of scum, but in the upper echelons of Solstice Bay, omegas of Jade's breeding are a prize. You took the most valuable asset I own."
I can feel my blood boiling at Winslow's words, but I reign in my anger. "We'll never give her up," I say evenly, though I can't mask the intensity in my gaze. "You can torture us all you want, but we won't give her up."
His brow furrows, then realization dawns on his face.
"My God...you bred her, didn't you?"
I stare up at him, curling my lips in a cruel smile. I can't help but gloat at him--because I want him to know she'shappy, and that his greatest enemy made her that way.
