“Sure didn’t seem that way yesterday,” he replies, rubbing his neck where I held him to apologize to Halo. He deserved that and we both know it.

“I have a thousand bucks here, cash, to trade for the bag. You give me the bag, take the cash, and I won’t tell Tony you stole his stuff.”

His lips begin quivering. “Shit. Shit. Shit. That bag was Tony’s.”

I nod, remembering my conversation with Halo. “I’ll spell it out for ya. You can take this money or you can work it off in the dark room.”

Fear engulfs his face as he ducks down and comes back up with a navy blue duffle bag. He steps out of the booth and tosses it to me. I slide the money through the slot at the bottom of the glass and open the bag.

Cash, of course, but something sticks out. A leather book the size of a planner with tiny receipts bulging out of it. I’ll look through the stuff later. I want to tackle a few things before I have to pick up my baby girl from work.

I need her to quit that damn job. It’s not safe with Tony on the loose. I’m ready to leave the lot and hope I never have to come back here. Still, I turn to tell the guy, “You never saw me or this bag, and I’ll make sure Tony never knows you stole it. Got it?”

“You got it, man,” he says with delight, counting his money.

I’m counting on Tony’s reputation for his dark room to be as ruthless as Halo says it is. It’s going to give us at least a day or so before this idiot caves and tells him I came to get his stuff. By then, it will be too late.

Back at the diner, I decide to wait in my car because if I go inside, I’m liable to finish what I started with Halo. The softness of her lips and curves gets my blood rushing to my manhood.

The more I think about our night together, the harder my erection. I feel like an animal unhinged. I need Halo. To sink every inch of myself deep inside of her walls and love her forever.

She belongs to me. The pressure building under my jeans is too much. I have to set myself free. Just as I do, I catch a glimpse of her brilliant smile and blonde curls bobbing up and down in a ponytail.

I’d give anything to just take her away from here. She deserves more than this chaos in her life. So much sadness and I can do something about it. Halo’s smile beams as she gushes over a woman holding a baby.

It makes me wonder if she wants kids, if she’d want to be a mother to our children. The more I think about putting some Haven babies in her, the more I want to charge in there and take her in my arms.

I settle for pleasuring myself instead. I want to feel her tightening grip around me. I squeeze tighter, wishing it was her mouth. My god, she sucks me good. Every memory of our night together floods into my head, both of them.

“Fuck,” I curse into the silence of the car. “Shit.”

My breaths come in faster and faster. Each and every stroke makes me want to howl her name. The buildup is too much for me to hold back. I hate that I’m in my car doing this, but the thought of Halo is just too sweet.

A few more frantic strokes bring me to my release. The warm liquid coats my hand as I pull a towel out of my glove box. Fuck, I can’t wait til she’s ready for me.

It’s too hot to sit in the car like this. The night air feels good blowing through my hair as I get out and adjust myself. Standing in the parking lot of the diner, I notice a familiar car. It looks like the one that followed us last night.

Shit.

I hoped to have more time, but I approach the vehicle, ready to pummel whoever’s inside when the woman with the toddler comes out of the diner. I take a second look and see the car seat in the back and stop.

“Can I help you?” she asks with an awkward smile, clutching her baby in her arms.

“I’m sorry, ma’am. My mistake. I thought this was my buddy’s car. I’m gonna head inside and see my girl. You have a good night.”

I walk away before she can say anything and finish out Halo’s shift in my regular booth now in the back of the restaurant.

As soon as she sees me, she swoops in with a burger and sweet tea.

“Hey Daddy,” she whispers with a smile and a soft kiss.

“If you start that in here, baby girl, I’ll be sure to finish,” I tell her.

“Maybe you should,” she says with a wink. “I already gave Maybelle and them my official resignation.”

“How they’d take it?” I ask her, peering over her shoulder at the rest of the staff.

“Alright, I guess.”
