“What about my lawyer?” I ask him.
Hayden sighs, “I tried getting a hold of him. The DA said they can have a public defender present by the time we get there. They just want to be sure you’re afforded every right as you move through this process.”
“Can you come inside with me?” I ask him. I can hear how he’s phrasing things, that he won’t be in the office with me.
“I’ll be outside waiting for you. We can head over to your place when you’re done and check out the new locks and things.”
“You think Tony is going to show up?” I ask him, wondering if all the new fancy locks and things will keep him out of my life.
“I haven’t gotten any calls or texts from my brother, so…so far so good. Eat up, baby girl. Don’t worry about Tony. I’ll make sure he doesn’t bother you if the DA and the police aren’t up to the job.”
With that, I finish the breakfast and we head toward downtown Conklin. City Hall happens to be near all of the courthouses, and I head inside the County Justice Department to surrender myself for the bench warrant.
It’s just as Hayden said it would be, easy and no handcuffs. An officer escorts me from the lobby and into a woman’s office, whose face looks too tight. Still, she smiles and tips her head at me.
“Miss Alvin, it’s nice to see you again. I am ADA Diana Nunzio. I’ll be taking your statement and have these agreements drawn up for you.”
“Oh, and I have this.” I pull up the bag and show it to her. Her eyebrows shift in confusion. I explain, “Tony Manchester broke into my home the other night and threatened me if I didn’t give him this bag, he’d put me to work in his dark room.”
She looks down at a few folders on her desk, flipping through the pages until she lands on one and reads it silently. She looks at me and asks, “The officers who walked you through the metal detector didn’t check that bag?”
“I think they did, but I told them that I was coming to give it to you. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I should have turned it over to the police anyway. There’s names and receipts in here along with a bunch of money. No one from the DA’s office turned up from what I saw, but you all would know a lot better than I would.”
She leaves the room for a few moments and returns with police officers and a public defender. I agree to testify alongside the dancers to incriminate Tony for a slew of charges, and the charges against me are dismissed. There are going to be new ones brought against Tony as he broke into my house.
When it’s all said and done, my statement is enough and I shouldn’t have to come back to court for anything. It’s finally over.
The sun seems to be shining so much brighter as I leave the courthouse. Hayden’s waiting outside for me and the smile on his face does something to me. Charismatic and sexy in denim and a white shirt, he’s the most handsome man standing out there.
And he’s waiting for me.
“So you’re all set?” He takes my hand to pull me in for a hug and kiss.
“Yeah, she was amazing and so nice. Mrs. Nunzio promised I wouldn’t have to do anything else. The warrant’s been withdrawn and all my charges were dropped. I’m free to live my life again. Thank you, Hayden.”
“Don’t thank me yet. We still have to swing by your place to check it out.”
“I think I have an idea. There’s a grill out back. Can we stop at the grocer? I can grab some burgers and beer. I really want to thank you and your brother for the work done on the house and you for just keeping me safe. I don’t know what would have happened if I’d gone home to find Tony there.”
“I don’t want to think about that. The beers and burgers are a great idea. We can take a look at everything, and as long as you’re comfortable, I can help grill up those steaks too.”
“You need to let me do this for you. I can grill things…I think,” I tell him with a giggle. I’m sure I can look up techniques and stuff on my phone. “I just want to do something for you, Hayden. Please, Daddy?”
The groan that slips from his throat is enough to make my walls clench with desire.
“Begging me like that is going to get you in trouble, baby girl.”
“I think I like getting into trouble. After all, it got me you.”
“Bad little girl,” he says, shaking his head.
It doesn’t matter that there are dozens of people around us, walking up and down the sidewalks. He kisses me and reaches down to grip my ass as he pushes his tongue inside of my mouth. It swirls around mine, making my nipples hard to the point I’m not sure I want him to back away or else everyone will see the effect he has on me.
When he pulls away, his smile says that his intention is to leave my nipples hard for the world to see. I have to fold my arms over my chest as we walk to the car. The minute we get inside, I remember sucking his dick in here last night.
So many firsts with Hayden and I want to make sure he gets the most important first of all. My hand brushes over his crotch, and he picks it up like he did last night. Except this time, he doesn’t suck on my fingers, he kisses the top and holds it as he drives toward the market.
We grab the groceries and everything we’re doing seems to flow naturally as if we’ve known each other across several lifetimes. We just fit and it’s becoming clear to me with every passing minute, Hayden’s right.
