I’ve been saving myself for him and just didn’t know it.
When we get back to my house, there’s a large pickup truck sitting in the driveway. A few guys are walking to other work trucks, and Hendrix is standing just outside my front door. It looks like everyone’s clearing out as we pull up.
Hayden greets his brother as he tosses a large toolbox into the back seat of his truck.
“We just finished up here, ma’am,” Hendrix tells me with a tip of his hat.
“Did you all work through the night?” I ask him, my eyes shifting from Hendrix to the three other men on their way to their cars.
“Sure did,” he tells me and Hayden.
“Baby girl, don’t worry about it. I swear it’s all taken care of,” Hayden whispers against my ear.
I tell Hendrix, “Aww, I wanted to grill up some burgers for you fellas.”
Hendrix assures me, “It’s no problem. Besides, we’re all pretty beat. I’m gonna let the fellas go get some rest. Y’all enjoy. I’ll give Hayden a call and we can plan something nice for everybody. How about in a week or so? We can party at Heaven’s Haven. Hudson would love it.”
Hayden interjects, “That actually sounds like a great idea. Anything we need to know about the security updates?”
Hendrix hands me a small pamphlet. “We got motion sensors set around the perimeter of your yard. They don’t trigger an alarm unless you set it that way. There’s a few different modes you can set and the pamphlet explains all the features. You got new doors and gates on all the windows. They’re all behind the shutters. You can open and shut them. I suggest you leave ‘em shut for now. The shutters all close flush so they don’t mess up the curb appeal.”
I thank Hendrix one more time before we head inside and unpack the groceries.
“There’s a deep freezer in the basement,” I tell Hayden as I put the rest of the food up. “I guess we should hang onto all this meat until we throw that barbecue.”
“We can do whatever you want, baby girl.”
That makes me smile. “You really mean that, Daddy?”
“Of course.”
“Good, then let’s go upstairs so you can finish what you started yesterday.”

HAYDEN
It’s different walking through Halo’s house in the daytime. It doesn’t feel as ominous and deadly without Tony in it. With Hendrix putting in the additional security features, I’m confident this place is solid.
The living room is small, separated from the kitchen by a wall that we have to walk through to reach a flight of stairs. There’s fading wallpaper and the steps creak under the weight of us heading to the second floor.
The parquet flooring is from a time long gone by, but it makes me smile knowing Halo grew up here. This place is now one where we get to leave our story, a story of where our love christens the future ahead of us.
When Halo brings me to the corner bedroom, she opens the door to a warm space. Off-white walls and lace curtains. I almost feel too masculine to be in here. She’s nervous, doing this thing where she can’t decide which side of her face she wants her hair to fall.
Before she can scoop up those curls, I scoop her into my arms, whispering against her ear, “Relax, baby girl. Daddy’s got you.”
My heart races as she leans against me for me to set her down on the bed. Looking down at her, I feel like an angel and a demon. There’s a part of me that wants to fuck her senseless, and the other side wants me to take my time to treat her delicately.
She seems so small compared to me, and I don’t want her to break.
After stripping her out of her clothes, her perfect body, a little pudge around her stomach, the thickness of her thighs, all for me lay on her soft bed. The intrusive thoughts want me to pull her to the edge and dive inside, but I want her to remember this first time passionately.
I don’t want it to fly by. I take my shirt off and let my pants fall to the ground, licking my lips as I look over her body like a fine dining menu. Where to start first?
“Spread those legs for Daddy.”
A breath ripples as she hesitantly spreads her feet apart while I stroke myself into an erection. I want her ready for me and to continue to take command.
