“Uh, good day Mr. Morelli. Your wife is currently looking at office space.”
“Is that where you are?”
Johnny cleared his throat. I could not see it, but I could tell he was adjusting his collar. “Of course, Mr. Morelli. Where would we be?” In the background, I heard Simona say, “Is that Giovanni, Johnny?” At least they were together. “And where were you in the afternoon?” I heard him gulp, followed by a pregnant pause. “Lost your tongue there, Johnny?”
“Not at all sir,” he said, “It’s just that when Simona—”
“First name basis? With my wife?” The trio had only spent hours together, and they were talking to each other as if they were long-time friends. That feeling of hurling the phone to the wall came back again, and I had to clamp it down.
“I’m sorry. I mean, Mrs. Morelli asked to be taken to that borough. We told her it was a no-go territory, but she insisted and since the Bianchis aren’t—” Johnny’s voice trailed off and another came onto the line.
“Are you stalking me?” Simona’s sultry voice came out from the other end. My body instantly responded as my cock hardened just from hearing her and remembering what we did last night. I hated the effect she had on me.
I got up from my seat and went to the window where I gazed at the view of the city made into a beautiful golden skyline as the sun set. “Sounds like you’re on a first name basis with my men already. What made them obey you instead of me, I wonder. Did you give them one of your glorious blow jobs?” I winced as soon as the words came out. They were not only below the belt, but worse, they made me sound like a jealous husband. Johnny and Mickey were my most trusted bodyguards. I had assigned them to Simona because I knew she would be safe with them and the two would rather die than act untoward to her.
“Fuck off, Gio. Honestly,” she spat.
“Is that what you were doing with your old boyfriend? Or should I say current?”
“Oh my god, you’re stalking me. You creep! Having two of your men with me at all times is not enough, apparently. You added a third tail.”
I was the one who should yell, not her. She was the one caught cheating. “I didn’t have to. You were so public with your indiscretions people saw you.”
“Indiscretions? Do you even hear yourself? I can’t visit an old friend now!”
I was about to mouth off that Leonardo wasn’t just an old friend to her and scream about all the schemes she and he had done until I stopped myself. She didn’t know. She had no idea that I knew about how they scammed unsuspecting men out of their money. All she knew was that I confronted her about Leonardo being her boyfriend during that cursed period five years ago. She had agreed, but that was it. Best for her to not know. It could be information I could use later.
“Is that what he is? Just a friend?”
“Yes! And if I knew that his part of town was off limits and so dangerous that I should even visit,” she dragged the phrase ‘off limits,’ “I wouldn’t have gone.”
“Yeah, don’t go. And stop seeing Leonardo.”
“Why?”
“If you continue to do so, Johnny and Mickey can say bye to their time on earth.”
“What—”
I ended the call there for emphasis. I wasn’t going to kill her bodyguards, of course. They have been with me longer than I knew Simona. Johnny and Mickey probably thought it prudent to do as she said. It was all Simona’s fault. She was the one testing my patience, and eventually, she was going to learn the consequences of toying around with me.

He came back home angry. I was worried he would do something when he entered, but he instead marched past me and went upstairs. I fucked up and worse, I might jeopardize two lives. The threat he had laid on me the last time we spoke on the phone left a chill down my spine. Sure, I cajoled Johnny and Mickey into taking me to visit Leonardo. When they learned the part of town I wanted to go to; they were adamant about not taking me there, but I told them it would only be a few minutes, and it was. All I wanted to do was tell Leonardo I was in town and see how he was doing. He was a friend of mine, after all.
How Gio found out was the most peculiar part. He must have had a third person following me. There’s no way the bodyguards would have said anything to me. Not with the way they were apprehensive during my visit. Mickey was grumbling throughout the ride and only felt a little better when I offered them to go to lunch with me afterward. They were nice guys, and did not deserve whatever wrath Gio had planned for them.
“You have to understand that it was me who persuaded them to take me there,” I said as soon as he came downstairs and into the living room. “If I had known it was that serious, I wouldn’t have forced them.”
“I didn’t know a meeting with your boyfriend was important enough to risk a shaky truce. Surprised you were still horny after last night. Or do you still want more?”
“He’s not my boyfriend.”
“I don’t care. Stay away from him.”
“Fine. But I need to know why. You can’t just tell me not to do anything or not to go anywhere.”
“Simona.” He massaged his forehead, a subconscious sign that he was annoyed with me. “It’s for your own good.”
