“It’s part of her charm.” She’s adorable. And tipsy. And mine.

“Are you going to join the party or what?” River asks, sliding up to us.

“I am,” I grumble.

“You’re lurking. You're supposed to talk to people, dance, and eat.” He shoves a cookie in his mouth. “You should go and hold up your mate. She’s hilarious, by the way.”

“You’re both assholes,” I say without heat.

“Yep, love you too, man,” River says, smiling wide.

I shake my head and walk to my mate. Ava sees me coming, but Marie doesn’t, too wrapped up in shaking her hips.

“The key to twerking is to get low,” Marie says. Her dress is dangerously high on her thighs as she attempts to demonstrate. Ava is giggling.

“Mate,” I call.

She shoots up and stumbles back into me. I steady her, and she tilts her head on my chest to look at me. Her smile blinds me.

“Bash,” she says. “Are you going to dance with me?”

Ave waves her fingers at me and moves over to Kerian. “Do you want me to?”

“Please,” she says.

I twirl her around so she faces me, enjoying her laughter as I do. “Come here, mate,” I say as I move further away from the crowd. We end up toward the other end of the balcony. Marie doesn’t seem to notice, or she just doesn’t care. “Are you having fun?”

“So much.” She slides her hands up my chest. “Are you?”

“I’m having fun watching you.” I thread my hand through her hair. “You are beautiful.”

“You are too.” She offers her lips.

I kiss her gently. I pull back but just enough to kiss her cheeks, then her chin, nose, and forehead. I cup her neck with both hands, use my thumb to tip her chin up, and look into her gorgeous eyes. I feel so humble. The white ring, signifying her bond to me, glows brightly.

“You did it, Marie,” I whisper.

“What?” She asks.

“You saved me.” I feather my thumb over her lips. “I would have lived the rest of forever, alone and bitter. You brought life with you when you crashed into my world.” My eyes shine with moisture. “You saved me in every way.”

“Sebastian,” she says gently. “We saved each other.”

We press our foreheads together, breathing with each other, expanding on the bond that already exists. We take a moment and then turn back to the party.

I know how this happened. Magic brought me Marie, and Marie brought me a family.

Epilogue

Bishop

She’s so fucking beautiful. Her long blonde hair blows in the breeze as she walks through the outdoor market. She’s wearing skintight jeans and a bright yellow tank showing off her full tattoo sleeve. I’m itching to find out if she has anymore underneath her clothes. Her eyes are hidden behind a pair of sunglasses, but her luscious lips are painted bright red and are in a wide smile as she watches the children run between the stands.

We haven’t met, but I know who she is. I caught her scent off of my friend, Marie. It took some well-placed questions to find the woman behind the sugary scent. Penny was my mate.

Some would call what I’m doing creepy; I call it fieldwork. I’ve been finding my way to all the places that Penny has been going the past few days. It’s not like I’m staring in her window at night; that would be wrong. All I am doing is gathering information to be better prepared to convince her that she belongs to me.

Having a golden dragon as a mate is not something to take lightly. We are possessive and have a one-track mind when it comes to the women chosen to be with us forever. The woman has to be strong. Once we find her, we won’t ever let go.
