“You know, we can come up here anytime you like. It’s not like it’s goodbye forever.”

She smiled and laid her head against him. “I know. It’s just so much has been shared here in the short time we’ve been here. I think it just adds to the romance of it all.”

“But just think of all the things we have left to create.” He rubbed her stomach and smiled, kissing her forehead.

She put her hand over his and felt the love for him and their unborn child course through her veins.

“You’re right. It’s not the end, only the beginning.” She turned to him and wrapped her arms around his neck. “But before we go, maybe we should have one more memory here?” She pushed her breasts against him and pressed her hips teasingly against his pelvis while she stretched on her tiptoes.

He grinned at her, sweeping her up in one scoop. “You know, I think you’re right.”

She giggled as he took her into their cabin one last time.

After a steamy last round in the cabin, they finally made their way back to the den.

Liam had called the clan healer to examine Emma as soon as they got back, insisting that she and the baby needed to be checked out officially.

He pulled into the drive and shut off the vehicle. “Well, we’re home.”

Emma’s heart fluttered at the word choice. She smiled, looking at the beautiful home, knowing they would spend their future together here as a family.

“Yes, we are.” She kissed him before opening the car door.

He got out and grabbed their bags from the back. “You go ahead and head inside. The doctor should be inside waiting for you.”

“Are you sure I can’t help you?” She was trying to put off seeing the healer. She didn’t know why, but she was so nervous to have her pregnancy confirmed. What if it had all been wrong? Fear lingered in the back of her mind. It was all just going too well.

“Don’t be silly. It’s just a couple of bags.”

“What about my things? I can get them first and take them…”

Liam cut her off. “Em, it’s fine. I already have a couple of my clan members and my sister gathering your boxes. I made a call while you were in the shower.” He winked at her and pulled the last bag out. “Now, go to the healer. I’ll be inside in a moment.”

Emma’s heart pounded as she walked into the den.

An older woman sat at the counter having a cup of lavender tea. Her blue eyes were bright behind her glasses. “Ah, Emma! I’m glad to see you two made it back safely. The whole clan heard about what happened at the cabin.”

Emma smiled weakly as she stood on the other side of the counter. “I figured. It was crazy, but thankfully, Liam is very capable. They were no match for him.”

Cynthia gave a knowing nod. She took a sip and set her tea down. “Yes, yes, he is. He also had his mate to protect.”

Emma blushed.

“Oh, dear. Don’t be bashful. I can smell it all over you. He marked you, and I can tell you feel the same about him. That’s why the rival clan must have felt so threatened. That’s a good thing. Especially if you two are expecting.”

The doubt crept stronger into Emma’s mind.

“What is it?” Cynthia inquired with a worried look.

“I know we took a test, but a lot has happened, and … I’m just worried. I wasn’t until we got back, but now I can’t help but fear that…”

“That something had happened?”

Emma kept her eyes down, only able to nod.

“Well, let’s check you out and prove you wrong.” Cynthia walked to Liam’s bedroom door and waited for Emma to follow.
