Page 40 of Mortal Desires

I snorted over my breath, but did not confirm. A god would be preferable, but everyone knew we were the worst sort and forever locked into our own territory.

“I never knew you were looking for a wife, my lord.”

I eyed Cassandra over the wine goblet. She was always loyal, a little too loyal for my liking. I hated human games, and she talked like secrecy was second nature to her.

“I wasn’t looking,” I replied.

“I’d serve you, my lord. I still can.”

She curtsied again and looked up with her back still bowed, arching an eyebrow and giving me an idea of what she meant by servicing.

“I don’t have desires like your kind, Cassandra,” I told her when she rose to her full height once again.

“I believe you’re about to show the court you do have them.” She forgot herself for a second. “My lord.”

Cassandra was a beautiful woman. Long hair, symmetrical features, and a huge chest. She looked more like a woman, while Pilar looked like a little girl—scared and alone. Still, my wife had an unapologetic spark in her eyes. She, in her own way, was one of the worst kind of women.

“The desires I feel, Cassandra, are only for my wife. No one on this court could possibly satisfy me.”

The last thing I needed was for Cassandra to offer herself on a silver platter. She never went that far with me before, maybe because she never asked herself if a legend had a cock.

That was her mistake.

A throat cleared, drawing our eyes to Pilar, holding her skirts while looking straight at Cassandra like she too thought very little of the woman.

“My lady.” Cassandra bowed again. “It’s a great honor to meet you.”

Pilar watched the woman bow with an expressionless face. If she was smart, she wouldn’t get involved with Cassandra. The woman might not be that powerful, but she was ruthless where Pilar was all softness.

After all, that was how she got here. Because I sent a ghost to stay long enough on the surface to gain her love.

She was too soft for the underworld.

Pilar blinked and came to me, taking a seat on her throne beside mine.

“I wish I could say the same, but I arrived just in time to watch you propositioning my husband.”

Cassandra paled in a way I’d never seen before, almost losing her footing, and shook her head. “No, my lady, of course—”

“I don’t like to be lied to,” Pilar cut it in. “You can turn around and play with whoever you want today, my lady,” he added sarcastically. “As long as you know that, you’ll never touch what is mine.”

Maybe my little wife wasn’t that soft.

The silence between them was heavy. I sipped from my wine and waited for Cassandra’s next move. She gulped and nodded.

“It was lovely to meet you,” Pilar said at last, dismissing the witch.

When Cassandra turned her back, Pilar spoke once again.

“Only I will endure your advances.”

I snorted, feeling my cock swell. “Claim me again and I’ll take you before it’s time.”

She quickly turned to me, her eyes straight to my lap, and watched the bulge in my loincloth grow.

Her lips parted while she flashed me a look. “I’d expect you to be dressed if I needed to wear all of this.”

My eyes traced her body and the dress I had chosen for her. She looked like a dark queen, a little less innocent than when she arrived. I groaned in satisfaction knowing I had a hand in corrupting her just a little.
