“Look, I know you’re going to refuse, but I’m going to suggest it anyway… I think you need a few days away from the office.”

Megan’s gaze shoots back at me. “Sir? But what about…”

“The company isn’t going to fall down just because we’re not here. I think you’re due for a break, and I have an idea.” Hopefully, she’s not going to turn me down. I feel like I’m asking a girl on a date for the first time. “I’m going to Martha’s Vineyard tomorrow, and I’ll be back Sunday. I just need time away, given the circumstances. How about you join me?”

She swallowed hard. “You want me to join you?”

“As a guest, not my PA,” I offer, hesitantly. “I think you deserve this break more than I do. I know it’s not much, but it’ll be enough for you to properly recharge. What do you think?”

Megan is looking at me like she’s never seen me before. She must be wondering what’s wrong with me. She’s come with me on working vacations before, but I’ve never suggested going somewhere for a brief break from everything.

Then the way I suggested it sinks in, and I realize that it sounds like I’m asking her for a romantic getaway. Not outright, but it’s definitely suggestive. I want to reiterate that it’s nothing of the sort, but I find myself pushing that away as soon as I think about it. What is wrong with me? I should not be doing this. Megan is an employee; I should be telling her to take vacation time and not suggesting that she goes tomyhouse on Martha’s Vineyard. However, I know Megan, and she thinks of a vacation as staying at home and not going out.

This is the only way she’s going to get away from the drama that my family has brought into her life.

If you’re trying to get her away from the drama your family’s caused, why did you suggest your vacation home?

“Okay.”

For a moment, I think I didn’t hear her. “Really?”

“I guess, especially if you’re offering.” Megan manages to smile, and her body seems to relax a little. “It’s been a while since we’ve been to your place there. If you’re suggesting it, I can hardly refuse.”

I don’t know what to say to that. All I can do is stare at her. “Are you sure?”

“Like you said, there’s been a lot going on, and I need a break,” Megan shrugs. “I’m someone who stays close to home, or I’d be going back to my parents. And that’s not exactly relaxing. You know what I mean?”

“Yes. Yes, of course.” I clear my throat and find myself talking more, “How about we leave today?”

Her eyebrows shoot up in surprise. “Today?”

I don’t want to come across as too eager, especially now she’s agreed. The last thing I want is to scare her off or something.

“It’s Friday, and we can easily allocate the work elsewhere,” I reply nonchalantly. “We get ourselves packed and head off today. What do you think?”

Megan considers it for a moment, and then she’s nodding. “Okay. I’ll get the work redirected elsewhere. Unless you want us to take the work with us?”

I chuckle lightly, shaking my head. “No work. We unplug.”

Because of my position, I can afford to do that. And with Megan being my PA, she can do the same.

Feeling my chest tighten at the sight of her lovely smile, I turn abruptly. “Let me know when you’re finished. I’ll get things organized on my end.”

I shut the door and lean on it as the air leaves my body. I like to think I look after my employees, and if they need a break, I let them have it. But this is Megan, and what I’ve just offered her is more than a break.

We’re going to be alone. Together.

Given the sensations that twist in my belly every time I look at her, was that a good idea? I don’t know anymore. But I can’t bring myself to take it back. The way Megan looked at me when I suggested it’s enough for me to go through with it.

I head to my desk and pick up my phone. I’m going to have to let my pilot know that we need him at short notice. Hopefully, that’s not going to be a problem or we’re going to have to go by car.

And with the way my cock is pressing against my zipper, that’s probably not a good idea. At least the plane travel time will be shorter.
