“Hi, Conner. I have your baby.” I grinned.

“My sweet angel. Turn her around so she can see her daddy.”

I looked at Charlotte, and she rolled her eyes.

“Hi, Isabella. Are you being a good girl? Where’s Charlotte?”

“She’s standing on the platform in her bridesmaid dress. See.” I turned the phone so he could see her.

“Babe, you look great,” he said.

“Conner, why are you Facetiming me again?”

“Because I miss you and our daughter.”

“You just saw us an hour ago, and the hour before that, and the hour before that.”

“And? What’s your point, Charlotte?”

“Don’t you have patients to see?”

“Yes, and I’ve been seeing them.”

“Bro, are you Facetiming her again?” I heard Nathan say.

“Shut up. I’m checking on my daughter, Nate.”

I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Charleigh, let me see my princess before I have to hang up.”

I turned the phone around so he could see her.

“Daddy loves you, baby girl, and when I get home, I’m going to kiss you and hold you all night.”

“Hang up,” Charlotte whispered as she looked at me.

“Conner, I have to hang up now. I need to try my dress on.”

“Then give my daughter to Charlotte.”

“No can do. We can’t risk Isabella spitting up on her dress. Say bye to your daddy, Isabella.” I hit the end button.

“I love that man to death, but he’s driving me insane,” Charlotte said, and Jenni and I laughed.

I handed the baby to Jenni while Charlotte changed out of her dress, and I changed into mine. Stepping on the platform, I stared at myself in the three-way mirror as tears filled my eyes.

“Aw, sweetie.” Jenni placed her hand on my back. “Get it all out now so your makeup will be safe on your wedding day.

“Let’s not forget this.” Charlotte smiled as she placed my veil on my head.

“It’s a perfect fit.” Jenni grinned.

After I hugged Jenni and Charlotte goodbye, I stopped at the store to pick up a few things for dinner since Christian promised he’d be home by six p.m. It was seven o’clock when he walked through the door, and I was seeing red. No call, no text, nothing.

“Babe, I’m so sorry I’m late.” He walked over and tried to kiss me, and I walked away. “Where’s dinner?”

I couldn’t believe he had the nerve to ask that.
