Sure enough, there was Sena standing just to the edge of the frame, not even trying to disguise herself, and looking around expectantly. She fidgeted every so often, and her scowl deepened with each passing second. Karissa didn’t need a close up of her face to know that she was getting pissed at whoever she was waiting for. Sena never was one for patience. Finally, a figure strode toward her from down the sidewalk, stopping in front of her.
“Any idea who he is?” Savage asked.
“I’m running his face through some facial recognition software, but he definitely looks like he knows her,” Code replied, speeding up the video to show the man turning and walking away, but never once showing his full face to the camera. “I don’t think we’re going to get a hit quickly with this.”
“Did you check any of the cameras on his route to her?” Glitch asked.
Code shot her a cool glare. “Of course I did,” he said tightly. “Contrary to popular belief, I’m not lazy and I know what the hell I’m doing.”
Glitch ignored him and said, “I need my computer. I’ll be back.” Then she was up and hurrying out of the room.
“Can you go back to the part when he’s walking away?” Karissa asked him. Code nodded and rewound the video to the moment she requested. As it played, she narrowed her eyes and focused on Sena. Sena’s face was pulled down in an angry scowl. Before she walked away, she could just make out her putting something in her pocket but it was partially obscured by the man. “There, she just put something in her pocket. He gave her something.”
“Drugs?” Razor suggested.
“Possibly,” Karissa said thoughtfully. “It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that she’s using. But if it is drugs, that means that we can narrow our search down to local dealers.”
“We have our fair share of low-level dealers,” Fury said. “Unless we can see exactly what she put in her pocket, it’s going to take some time to narrow it down. We try to keep most of the terrible shit off the streets, but can’t do it all.”
Karissa fought back her frustration. There was always something. “I say we go out and see if we can find her.”
“She could be anywhere by the time we got there,” Rogue pointed out. “It’s been ten minutes now since this, and she could easily disappear.”
“Did you try to follow where she went next?” Karissa asked Code.
Code glared at her. “You questioning me now, too?” he growled. “This is exactly why we don’t let pussy in this room. I’m tired of being questioned like I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing.”
“Brother,” Razor warned darkly.
“It was a simple question,” Karissa snapped at Code. “If your ego can’t take a simple question, you might need to take a good hard look at yourself. Now, where did she go before she disappeared?”
Code was silent for a moment, his knuckles white as he gripped the table. He glanced at Savage, who nodded at him to continue. Karissa ground her teeth at that, wanting to yell that it was her who asked the question and he didn’t need to get permission to answer her, but she managed to hold back. That would only waste time. Instead, she waited impatiently while he clicked a few more buttons and pulled up another video showing Sena walking down the sidewalk until she went down an alleyway. “Is that the same alley she went down earlier?” she asked.
“No, that was on the opposite side and a few blocks over,” Code answered.
“But she does like to use alleyways, which means that she knows where they go and which one to take for a quick getaway if she needs to,” Razor pointed out.
“Where does that alley lead?” Vulture asked.
“It looks like a dead end,” Code answered, pulling up a map and zooming in. “At the back is a large wall with no other ways out.”
Karissa frowned. “Then she’s either hunkered down there snorting or injecting herself with something, or there has to be something down there that we can’t see. She doesn’t come out?”
“She hasn’t yet,” Code answered.
“We need to go and check that out,” Karissa said. “If she’s getting high, she’ll be there long enough for us to get there.”
The door flew open and slammed shut again. “Wow, you guys pick whiny club whores,” Glitch remarked as she sat down and opened her purple laptop. “That one is still bitching and screaming at anyone who will listen that we shouldn’t be here and how she’s going to kick our asses. You’d think she would have learned her lesson by now.” She clicked a few things on her laptop and said to Code, “Send me that video with the man and let me see what I can do.”
Code grumbled and muttered for a moment before he did as she ordered. “I don’t know what the hell you think you’re going to find,” he said to her. “I have some of the best systems in the country. If they can’t get it, then I doubt you can.”
Glitch gave him a bland look, her fingers never stopping on the keyboard. “Country, sure, but I have access to worldwide systems and ones I’ve created myself, so how about you just let me see what I can do and we can compare dick sizes later, huh?” Code scowled at her, while most of the men in the room snickered. Karissa rolled her eyes. Finally, after a few minutes, Glitch said happily, “Got him. Our guy’s name is Lucian Perry, AKA Fuzz on the streets, and he is a very bad boy. He likes to peddle drugs to all kinds of people, including around schools. He’s also done time for rape, assault, domestic violence, you name it.”
“I’ve heard of him,” Rogue said with a nod. “Know where he likes to hang out too.”
“Let’s split up and get to work instead of just talking about it,” Karissa said tightly.
“I think she forgets that she’s not the one in charge,” Jax mock-whispered.
