“You’re welcome to join us,” I said.
Walter shook his head. “No, that’s okay. We plan to have dinner with Michael.”
“If you need anything, you call me,” I said.
“I made the emergency call list?” he replied with a grin.
“Always, my friend. Always.”
“What’s going on? Is everything alright? Things got very serious,” Hayden interjected.
Walter turned to him. “Michael will probably call you tonight. He may need his best friend.:
Hayden scrunched his brow and narrowed his eyes. I could see the utter confusion shining in his expression.
I stepped forward. “We can talk about it later. Walter, seriously, call if you need anything.”
“I will. Enjoy your evening getting to know your mate. I have some things to take care of before I leave. I’ll see you all tomorrow.” Walter turned to leave but paused and turned back. “Talon is on guard duty tonight. I forgot to tell you that.”
I growled. “I don’t need a guard. I’m going to my son’s house. I especially don’t need Talon.”
“What’s wrong with Talon? He’s nice,” Owen said.
“You’re the king of the pride and the CEO of a multibillion-dollar company. You need a guard,” Walter said, his tone broking no argument.
I sighed in annoyance. “Alright, but not Talon. He was a little too flirty with Brian when they met.”
Owen burst into laughter, and Hayden and Walter grinned.
“Oh my god, you look so funny,” Owen said. “But you have nothing to worry about. Talon’s not Brian’s type.”
“I’ll change the guard to someone else,” Walter said.
I shook my head. “Fine, but not tonight. I’m just going to Hayden’s, and he’ll be there to watch over my feeble body,” I replied, my voice oozing with sarcasm. Walter rolled his eyes. “Fine, you’re in charge of him tonight, Hayden.”
Hayden nodded, and Walter left the room, waving goodnight as he did. I turned to my son-in-law. “What’s Brian’s type?”
He giggled. “Come on, let’s go get dinner. I’ll tell you in the car. I’ll give you the roadmap to winning Brian’s heart.”
I nodded, grabbed my cell, and we were in Hayden’s car in minutes. As soon as Hayden started the car and put the car in gear, I turned to look back at Owen. “What’s Brian’s type?” I asked.
I really wanted to know. It concerned me. Yes, we were fated mates, and Fate thought we’d be perfect for one another, but did that mean I was his type? I knew he was my type, with his toned body, spunky personality, and eclectic style.
Owen’s broad smile was instantaneous. “You’re pretty much his type. He loves older distinguished men. The frat boy image and personality, like Talon, does nothing for him.”
I internally sighed at Owen’s words and faced front. I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over me, knowing that Brian preferred older men.
“Dad, relax. You guys are fated. There’s a definite connection. You’re acting like a teenage boy going on his first date,” Hayden said, gently punching my shoulder.
“Easy for you to say. I haven’t been on a date in nearly,” I abruptly stopped speaking and swung back to face Owen. “You met Brian’s parent’s before, right?”
Owen scrunched his brow and jerked back at my question. “Yes,” he said slowly.
“I know I had Stan do a background check on him, but I was distracted by Brian’s picture.”
“You and Hayden, doing background checks on your mates; Stan should get a fortune,” Owen interrupted, and Hayden protested his name being associated, but it was true; Hayden had checked out Owen.
“It was necessary,” I retorted, and Owen raised his brow as if to say ‘really?’ I continued. “It helped me to learn about him as fast as possible, and Stan gets paid plenty.”
