“Itisyou. I’d recognize your voice anywhere.” She let go of her suitcase and fumbled with her purse. “Can I get a picture?”
Teddy could see Stone waiting for him at the entrance to the restaurant for breakfast. But as Ben often reminded him, it never hurt to give a fan a few moments. “Sure.”
After the woman found her phone, she hurried to him and pressed her shoulder against his.
From over at the check-in desk, Teddy noticed one of the hotel security officers moving toward them. The staff there had done a great job at keeping fans from bothering theStorm’s Eyecast so far. No doubt the officer’s intention was to do the same for Mark Weldon now.
Teddy caught the guard’s eye and shook his head, letting her know it was okay. With a nod, she returned to her post next to the desk.
The fan’s hand shook as she raised her phone to take a selfie with him.
“Why don’t I do it?” Teddy took the phone from her.
“Thank you. I’m sorry. I’m just so nervous.”
Teddy held it in front of them. “Smile.” He took several shots and returned the phone.
As the woman scrolled through the images, Teddy asked, “Did I do all right?”
She beamed. “These are great. My sister is going to flip out. Thank you so much.”
“You’re very welcome.”
He left her looking at her screen and headed over to the restaurant, where Stone was shaking his head, a sly smile on his face.
“I don’t think I’ll ever get used to watching that kind of thing happen to you.”
“Why, Stone, are you jealous?”
“Of you getting stopped in hotel lobbies by beautiful women? Absolutely.”
Once they were seated and their orders taken, Teddy brought Stone up to speed on his search for Rebecca.
“I know I don’t have to remind you that you’re running out of time,” Stone said.
“Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that what you just did?”
“Don’t you know you’re never supposed to call a lawyer on his tricks?”
“And who would have made that rule? A lawyer?”
“Who else?”
Across the room, Ben entered the restaurant, and Stone waved for him to join them.
After Ben placed his breakfast order, he said to Teddy, “No more unwanted visitors?”
“None that I’m aware of.”
“Glad to hear it. I treated Matthew to lunch yesterday, and talked to him again about what happened. I have to say, he’s lucky he wasn’t hurt worse.”
“You had lunch with Matthew? Where? What time?”
“Right here, in this restaurant.” Ben thought for a moment. “Around one, I think.”
“Was it a planned thing?”
Ben shook his head. “We bumped into each other in the lobby. Why?”
