“Dominic wants to kill Adrian.”

“I think he has to wait in line, because Ruben isn’t particularly impressed by him either.”

“Nor am I.” Rose reaches across and gently squeezes my arm. “If Dominic allowed me to be there when they find him, trust me, I’d be the one driving the knife into his gut.”

I look at the food on my plate and shake my head. “I’ll be able to sleep easily when I know he’s in the ground.” Rose roars a hearty laugh. “What?”

“There will be nothing of him left by the time those two are finished with him.”

An unfamiliar emotion passes through me. I find myself pulling my shoulders back and smiling. “Good.” My arms pebble with goose bumps and calmness settles over me. “Good,” I repeat.

It’s quite comforting knowing that Adrian’s life has an expiration date. I just hope he suffers at Ruben’s hands the way I suffered at his.

But for now, I’m going to enjoy my birthday lunch.

Chapter fifteen

Ruben

“Dante has set up a meeting with the president of the Fallen.”

“When?” Dominic asks as we have a scotch in my office.

I sit back in my chair and swirl the glass of amber liquid. “Five days.”

“Do you want me there?”

“No, I don’t. If it’s a trap, I need you ready to step into my role.” Dominic’s jaw tightens but he finally nods once. “Adrian is using all his skills and knowledge to stay hidden from me. So, I’ve had to resort to other measures.”

Dominic crinkles his forehead as he lifts the glass to his lips. “Who?”

“15.”

“Fuck,” he grumbles. “Is she going to take him out?”

“No, she’s under instructions to find him.” I sit back and chuckle. “She fucking charged me more because she’s not killing him.”

“She is an assassin. She probably thinks it’s beneath her to find someone and not kill them.”

“Adrian wouldn’t be expecting her. And, he’d be prepared and probably paying his locals to keep an eye out for you or me.”

“Smart move,” Dominic says. He looks toward the door and cocks a brow. “I don’t want to speak out of line, but how’s Eliza been?”

“She’s adjusting well,” I reply.

“Rosa was worried about her while we were on our honeymoon.”

“Worried because she’s with me?”

“God, no.” Dominic shakes his head. “Rosa knew her sister was in safe hands, but she was worried about how she’d react. The fact Eliza won’t tell Rosa what Adrian did to her, that in itself caused my woman anxiety.” I lift my brows and tilt my head to the side. “She told you, didn’t she?”

I slowly nod. “She did.” I arch a brow as I stare at Dominic. “Though I suspect there’s a lot more she hasn’t divulged to me.”

“Care to share?” Dominic straightens and lifts his chin. He too harbors the same feelings I do toward my nephew—his brother.

I gave Eliza my word, but I know Dominic can be trusted and won’t speak a word of what I tell him, even to his wife. “Let’s just say, he was starting his own brothel with Eliza.”

Dominic gives me a hard stare, his jaw jumping, and slowly shakes his head. “Fucker,” he says. He takes a moment to calm. “How does Adrian compare to the other men of this dysfunctional family?”
