Andrea looks even redder than me, and that’s saying something. I mouth the words, “I’m sorry,” to her as Andrew smirks.
“Sorry about that, Sister. We’ll get out of here. Don’t wait up.”
He pulls me through the door he somehow opened without me noticing. Must have been the enormous amount of embarrassment clouding my vision.
I turn back and call out to Andrea. “Sorry about that! It won’t happen again!”
“My eyes are forever burned with the image of my brother caging my best friend in and devouring her! You so owe me!”
“I promise I’ll make it up to you!” I shout back.
Andrea stands at the door with a wide smile on her face. She doesn’t look too put out, so hopefully, it won’t be hard for her to forgive me.
Andrew holds out his hand and wiggles his fingers. I look at them for a moment before I realize what he wants. I reach into my purse and pull out my keys before thrusting them into his open palm.
“I better not regret this.”
“Only thing you’re going to regret is telling her it won’t happen again.”
There’s a mischievous gleam in his eyes that has my insides warming up and butterflies taking flight in my stomach. I race him to the car, excited to get naked with him back at my place.
He laughs as he darts toward the car. We’re practically running down the driveaway, laughing and giggling like teenagers. This is the lightest and happiest I’ve felt in years.
He inches past me, so I kick it into high gear to reach my car door before he does, but I miscalculate for the second time tonight. As I try to throw an elbow into his side, my ankle rolls on a stick in the driveway.
“Holy hell.” As my ankle rolls, I over correct and slam into Andrew’s back, and I start to go down. I squeeze my eyes shut, readying myself to hit the hard concrete below, but it never comes.
Maybe I did have one too many drinks.
I blink my eyes open to find Andrew gripping me behind each elbow. His earlier smile is still playful.
“I think I just pulled a hamstring trying to save you.”
He straightens and pulls me up. I automatically sway into him, embracing him as his strong arms wrap around me firmly.
I bat my eyelashes as I look up at him. “Do you need me to take a look at it for you?”
A knowing smirk overtakes his face. “You know, I think I might. Maybe even a little massage.”
“I think that can be arranged.”
He leans down to give me a light peck on the lips before swatting my ass and steering me toward the passenger door.
“No more running, though. That’s twice tonight I’ve had to save you from face planting, and I like your face too much to have it all mangled.”
I giggle as we both slide into the car. Once seated, I look over at him. “I think I can manage, but maybe I need you to check me out, too. You know, just to make sure everything is working properly.” A sly smile spreads across my lips.
“Oh, that’s exactly what I plan to do… all night long.”
Chapter Twenty
Andrew
I yank at my tie to loosen it. I’m tired from jumping back into a full caseload. Since I took the end of last week off to go to Andrea’s, I’ve been playing catch up all day. One thing after a-fucking-another. I can’t wait to get inside, get a beer, and just zone out to a football game.
Maybe I’ll call Charlie in a little bit. I smile as I think about last night. We stayed up until the last possible moment. I groan just picturing all the positions I had her in on her bed, in the shower, and on the kitchen counter right before I ran out of her apartment to catch my flight back this morning.
To say I’m tired is an understatement. We didn’t sleep hardly at all last night, and I had to run from the airport to my office to catch court first thing this morning. Luckily, I had a spare suit at the office and one of my least favorite ties.
