He’d never been more in love. Not once.

ChapterThirty-Nine

She’d never been so in love with anyone in her life. Katherine practically floated through the next few days. They rarely were without each other, and if they were with each other, then they couldn’t keep their hands from wandering.

Her hip hurt worse than it ever had before, and she couldn’t care less. Envy’s potions were helping, as well. She needed to ask Gluttony to send a message to his brother and let him know that they worked. Even though Gluttony rarely feasted from her in a way that she wanted, he was still biting her. The tiny pinpricks covered her body, and she loved to see them in the mirror.

Even now, wringing out her hair from yet another bath, she could see the faintest hint of them. The newest ones were more red than the others. Touching her fingers to the one just underneath her jaw, she grinned.

Her reflection looked like a different woman. A woman with a bigger heart and a delighted soul. Every inch of her was well pleasured and happy.

Blowing a kiss to that smiling woman in the mirror, she wrapped her towel a little tighter and made her way into the bedroom.

At this point, she just slept naked. Gluttony came into her room at all times of the night. He was busy doing something, though she had no idea what. He claimed it had something to do with his brothers, so she could only assume it was more alchemical solutions to whatever weapon had been created to attack the demons.

And yet, all of that felt so far away. She didn’t even think about the attacks on his brothers or the strangers in her town. They were in their own little safe bubble in this castle. So far away from reality that it was hard to think of anything else at all.

She was safe here. He was safe too, and together they would keep each other alive.

Sighing, she coiled the long mass of her hair on one side of her shoulder and eyed all the blankets. They were still tangled from their escapades this morning. A blush burned her cheeks as she thought about that entertainment.

Of all the men she could have picked, she’d had to go and get herself a demon. Both in and out of bed.

Pressing her hands to her lips, she tried to contain her mirth, but she just couldn’t. All that happiness bubbled out of her into laughter that filled the room. And she didn’t care who heard her. If Gluttony wandered past, maybe he would think she was mad, but did it really matter?

He made her so happy she couldn’t contain it.

The shadows to her right shifted, where he used to stand while she was asleep. The curtains moved as well, letting the thin light of the moon play across the features of a man who had been waiting for her to notice him.

“You shouldn’t do that, you know. You might scare someone.” Katherine mockingly placed her hand on her chest, but he would know he hadn’t startled her. She’d long ago started searching for him in the shadows. Even when she didn’t notice him at first, she always could feel when it was him.

Gluttony stepped out of the darkness near the curtains, his eyes already gleaming red. “But not you.”

“Rarely me.”

Katherine let out a little squeal of delight as he lunged for her. Though she pretended to run, she didn’t get very far before his arms slid around her waist and his face tunneled against her neck. His warm breath played across her throat, and he inhaled her deeply.

“I need you again,” he grumbled against her skin. “Damnable woman, you’ve tunneled your way into my very being. Just a few hours without you and I’m useless.”

“Useless?” She rocked against him, pressing her behind to the hard cock that pushed back against her. “I could find some use for you, if you need one.”

“Don’t tempt me.”

“And why shouldn’t I?” Katherine turned in his arms to pin him with a stare. “It’s just you and I here in this castle, and I desire you more than anything else in the world. You are mine, Gluttony, and I will not deprive myself of you.”

He groaned, and she watched his throat work before he gathered her a little closer. Grinding himself into her core, he muttered, “I thought I was the monster, and yet here I have created one.”

“You sure do complain a lot for a man who is now, finally, well satisfied in all aspects of his life.” Roping her arms around his neck, she tugged him down for a firm kiss. “Now, are you going to do something about this burning need or do I have to take care of it myself?”

He nipped at her lips, sharp fangs drawing the faintest pinpricks of blood. “Hush, woman. I’m trying to be understanding of your injuries. You’ve only just begun this adventure, and already I’ve abused your poor womanhood more than I should have.”

She made a face. “Womanhood?”

“What would you prefer I call it? Sheath? Hidden wonders?” He grinned.

Katherine made a different face of disgust. “None of that.”

“Then what would you suggest?”
