Oh well, I’ll probably never see him again.
We clearly ran in different worlds. And that was that.
I checked the time on my phone. I probably did have a little extra time to stay in the lounge, but whatever, I was here now. I grabbed a seat and pulled out my phone and scrolled through social media. I pulled up Instagram and searched our wedding hashtag. My stomach twisted after I scrolled through a variety of posts. Some from earlier in the evening were lovely, and I looked radiant and naïve as ever, and photos clearly posted after I had bailed were just insulting. I wondered if anyone knew what Jack had done, or if I was the only one. I quickly closed the app and decided to delete it from my phone. No sense in wallowing at the moment.
I could deal with the mess when I got home. For now, I was going to go lay on the beach, soak up some rays, and drink some Mai Tais. I pulled up Bejeweled on my phone and distracted myself. I heard them start boarding the plane, but I kept playing Bejeweled until I heard them call for my section to start boarding.
Suddenly, I smelled the delicious smell of cedarwood and neroli, and I popped my head up looking around, but I didn’t see Damian. I shook my head, thinking it was probably just someone wearing the same cologne as him.
Goodbye beautiful Damian West.
He’s probably the kind of man who breaks your heart, anyway. He’s too beautiful. He can have anyone he wants, anytime, I told myself. But after the few brief moments I had shared with him, a part of me didn’t even really believe that. He was sexy as hell, but he seemed like a good person. I nodded to myself.
I shuffled down onto the plane and thought I might be imagining it as I noticed another whiff of intoxicating warm cedarwood and neroli. As I greeted the flight attendant and rounded the corner of the entrance into first class, my mouth dropped open.
“You’ve got to be kidding me…”

DAMIAN
“We’re on the same plane?”Addison’s mouth dropped open and her hips jutted out as she rolled her eyes. She walked single file down the aisle, then she shuffled into the standing area in front of my seat, and let the passengers continue to move past as she crossed her arms and her mouth remained open in dramatic, playful surprise.
“I told you, you had plenty of time before boarding.” I smirked.
“How did you know we were on the same flight?” She gaped.
“I have my ways.”
“I’ll bet you do.” She shook her head from side to side. “Alright, I guess I’ll see you on the beach.” She said in a sing-song voice, and she started back down the aisle to her seat.
I instinctively reached out and grabbed her wrist, pulling her back. Her breath hitched in her throat as I rubbed the inside of her soft, warm wrist with my thumb.
“Sit up here with me in first class.” I nodded to the open chair beside me.
“Oh, I–” She looked around, getting uncomfortable at the line of people stacking up behind her in the aisle. “I shouldn’t.” She shook her head, looking uncertain.
“Oh, but you really should, Addison.”
“Mr. West–” She started.
“Damian.” I corrected her.
“Damian.” She blushed and chewed her lip. “I can’t, I’m sorry.” She pursed her lips together and her brows scrunched together with indecision, and as she made her way into economy, she looked over her shoulder at me. “Sorry.” She mouthed and then shoved her bag into the overhead compartment.
She sat on the opposite side of the aisle a few rows back. Little did she know I had already upgraded her seat to be closer to the front, and closer to me. I smiled to myself, pleased with my little secret.
Once we had ascended into the sky and the passengers settled into the soft hum of the plane, I pulled out my laptop and began working.
I composed another email to Charlie to see if he’d been able to get the permits pulled yet.
We were looking into a wildly profitable lot, and if I could get things in motion, it would set the company right. Since taking over West Industries from my father, I had been digging us out of a hole financially. While I had been overseas serving, my father had fallen ill and a few members of the board had advised him into the worst possible investments in an effort to carve out a nice fat bonus for themselves.
When the deal had fallen through, and money was still owed, it had been my father that had been implicated, rather than the advantageous board members. A few unfortunate clauses slipped into contracts that should have never ended up on his desk to begin with. Duped by the team that should have been operating for the best of the company.
When I had returned and taken over the company in his stead, I had quickly weeded the company of all personnel threats. I had been steadily working towards setting the company back on two feet. If I could see this deal through, it would be the last puzzle piece in a collection of strategic moves to set the company right, and finally set the company financials back on the right track, once and for all.
I shook my head, knowing I wassoclose to setting things right had added an element of emotion for me that I couldn’t deny. Despite Charlie dragging his feet, I was determined to see this deal through. If Charlie could just get the ball rolling like he normally did, I’d feel a whole lot better. He had been dragging his feet on this one, and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why. He was about to make the biggest paycheck of his year, there was no reason he should be making this difficult.
