I went into the closet in the spare bedroom and pulled out one of the many dresses that had just suddenly appeared in the closet. Even though I was mostly sleeping in Damian’s bed, and truth be told, there wasn’t a lot of sleeping happening, he had made sure I had my own space inside his house if I needed it.
I grabbed a deep blue cocktail dress out of the closet and shimmied it up over my hips, and zipped it up as far as it would go. It fit, but I couldn’t ignore the fact that it was a tight fit, especially over my hips.
“Just about ready?” Damian appeared in my closet.
“Nearly. Can you zip me up the rest of the way?” I stood with my hands concealing my stomach, worried he might notice, not that there was much to notice… yet.
Before I knew it, we were pulling up to the fancy bar he had made us reservations at.
“You really didn’t have to do this.” I smiled at him.
“Of course I did. Everything is on my tab. Just check in under my reservation.” He gave me a quick peck on the lips before I slipped out of the car. “I’ll be across the street if you need anything.”
“I know, I know. See you tonight.”
“Can’t wait.” He grinned, and I rolled my eyes, but it sent a shiver up my spine all the same. He didn’t flash a full smile all that often, and it sent the butterflies in my stomach soaring whenever he did.
Julie was already seated when I got there. “Holy shit, this place is nice.”
I looked around and nodded. “No kidding.”
“Your fiancé is loaded and well connected, huh?”
“Something like that.”
We ordered, and I got a seltzer water and lime after Julie had ordered a fancy cocktail. Julie was immediately suspicious. I looked around and lowered my voice. “I have so much to fill you in on.” I knew Damian was across the street, but couldn’t be sure if he had someone in the restaurant keeping an eye on me. It wouldn’t surprise me. It was probably why he agreed to give me space. I doubted he would actually leave anything to chance.
“Why are you whispering?” Julie looked around curiously.
As we ate, I filled her in on the whole fake fiancee situation, and everything that had happened with Jack, and she listened intently the whole time.
“And now, I’m pretty sure I’m pregnant, with my fake fiancee’s baby.” I breathed, feeling relieved at finally having someone to share everything that had happened with.
“Well, shit.”
“I know.”
“I need your help sneaking down to the drugstore to take a test.”
“Why don’t you just talk to Damian?” She offered.
“I don’t know. If I am, I just need time to process it and figure out what I want to do.”
She nodded with understanding and then looked around. “Your fiancé has already covered the bill, right?”
“Fake fiancé, but yes.”
She gave me a look and then smiled, holding up one hand that had my engagement ring, and the other hand with my diamond tennis bracelet. “You claim he’s your captor at the moment, but the only thing I see is that he’s chaining you down with diamonds.”
I blushed. She wasn’t wrong. There was something to be said about how easy it was with Damian, maybe not in the way I expected, but we did sync up with each other in our own way. Sure, we butted heads, but we always seemed to come back to ground zero. The sex was amazing, and it always seemed to reset us whenever we got off track with one another.
“Regardless, we’re not dining and dashing, if he’s paid already, right?”
I nodded.
“Why don’t we just pretend to go to the bathroom, and then we can head through the kitchen and find the backdoor to this place.”
“You want to barge into the kitchen?”
