We all laugh at that. He is the most mild-mannered of us, so it’s amusing that he’s the one who went to the most drastic measures to get his wife.
Bash raises his glass. “To the strong-headed women we call ours.”
Everyone grabs their glasses and raises them.
“Enough about our wives. I have news,” Bash says, bringing the attention back to him.
“What’s up?” Gio asks.
“Lucian is coming home,” Bash tells us. “I haven’t told Greer yet, but I figured she would take all the help she could get right now.”
Lucian is another hacker in the family. When Greer came back to the States, he switched places with her and went to Italy to oversee the day-to-day operations.
Killian nods at his brother-in-law. “She might bitch about it, but she’ll be thankful.”
“I’ve talked to him some, but with him being in a different country, it’s been hard,” Enzo says as he rubs his jaw.
“I’ve never met him,” I say out loud.
Gio snaps his fingers, pointing at me. “That’s right, you moved into his spot when he left.”
“I think you’ll like him,” Matteo says.
“He’s good people.” Bash nods.
“Have you heard anything from your mole?” I ask, referring to Bash’s inside man in the FBI.
He shakes his head. “As far as he can tell, these missing girls aren’t even on their radar. The detectives assigned to the cases haven’t connected any of them.”
“I’m not surprised. Did I tell you the Chief is supposed to be like an uncle to her, and as far as I can tell, he never even truly pushed to find her? He put the missing report out with her undercover name, then told everyone else that she was on a case on her own. He fucking fired her.” I growl.
“Wait, he fired her? I thought she left.” Killian looks over at me.
“No one ever really asked me what happened so I let you believe what you wanted, but no. That fucker fired her when she went back. Literally told her that he believes she went on vacation for two weeks to make him believe she had been kidnapped so he would investigate her case. I swear if she didn’t love that man, I would kill him.” I slam back my glass of scotch, hating the burn.
“Hey, that’s a sipping scotch,” Bash chastised me.
“Sorry,” I murmur, setting the glass down on the table.
“That’s messed up. Maybe we need to dig further into this uncle. He seems like a sketchy guy.” Gio rubs his jaw.
I sigh. “I’ve had tabs on him for years. Nothing ever pops up on him. I think he’s just a douchebag. I wish I had some dirt on him so I could get him fired and publicly humiliated. I want him to feel triple of what he made my girl feel.”
Enzo moves closer, patting my shoulder. “It’s hard caring so much for one person. Don’t do anything stupid.”
I nod, letting myself mull over his sage advice. The guys remain quiet, all probably thinking about what they would do for their own women. None of them could blame me if I did something irrational.
One of the babies cries, breaking the moment.
“Alessa, did you really have to push Draco over?” Bash sighs as he gets up to grab his daughter. “Why can’t you be nicer to your future husband,Sole?”
I smile at the nickname he uses. I can totally see why he calls her the sun. She lights up his life.
“Does Sofia know you already have her daughter married off?” Matteo teases.
Bash smirks. “I’m the Don. As soon as Draco was born, we had a contract drawn up.”
“Mia wasn’t overly happy about it, but she sees the reasoning behind it. Draco will be her protector. He will grow up knowing his priority will always be her.”
