“Gavin isn’t a man one can talk sense into or reason with. He’s not exactly the most understanding man in the world.” She swept the ends of her hair over one shoulder.

“Really? That’s shocking.” He bit back laughter. “Can’t say it’s obvious what you saw in him, but what do I know? I’m just cowboy boots.”

“If I didn’t have the cutest, sweetest son in the world I’d say that Gavin was a big mistake, but I got lucky because I love my kiddo more than anything. So, my hope is that one day his father will be what is needed for Ollie.”

“You’re more understanding than I’d ever be,” Rip muttered and swiped his hand down his whiskered jaw. “I guess we should call it a night.” Before he said something stupid about how he’d missed her. Still had feelings for her. Wanted to hold her all night.

“I think you might be right.” She stood and walked to him, reaching out to take his hand. “Let’s go to bed.”

He cocked a brow. “That’s either an invitation or a painful tease.”

“You should know I’d never tease about something like sex,” she said smoothly. “Go on and put your bug eyes back into your head. You heard me right. Fifteen years is a long time to wait.” She sashayed across the room, looking back at him from the doorway. “Are you going to waste one more minute?”

He followed her upstairs, his gaze focused on the ample curve of her bottom that seemed to hypnotize him into a trance.

The sensation of sliding in and out of the warm, wet heat of the beautiful woman underneath him made his heart and head swell. Tingles shot down his spine as he took on a smooth rhythm.

Damn, he’d missed her. Missed this. Missed holding her and hearing the soft, sensual moans escaping her lush lips. It had been so long and the moment she wrapped her legs around his hips time had become a grain of sand. They were still connected and their bodies fit together like they’d been made for each other.

Her fingers dug into his back and he increased his pace. Her soft moans made the hair on the back of his neck stand. He’d been clinging to a shred of control since he dove inside her and he felt himself slipping into the awaiting depths of release. He plunged deeper and deeper, gliding in and out, each stroke more intense than the last. He was grateful they were alone in the house because with each pump the headboard crashed into the wall. Thank goodness the bed was heavy and durable.

He plunged faster. Harder. He felt her muscles grip him and he knew she’d found release. His breathing came in rapid, tense gasps and his control slipped even more.

Then she whispered in his ear, “Come in me,” and he unraveled. He bit his lip as he shot off like a human torpedo.

He’d barely came back down to earth and realized his phone buzzed insistently.

He had every intention of ignoring the intrusion and focus on the beauty who had just blissfully sucked the life out of him through his dick…but then his phone rang.

“Shit,” he muttered against her shoulder. Their sweat soaked bodies were pressed against each other.

“Go ahead and grab it. It could be important,” she urged.

Muttering a streak of curse words that’d put a sailor to shame, he reached out, swiped up the phone, and hit the button. “This better be good,” he barked into the speaker.

As he listened to Bend, he gripped the phone tighter. “Be there as soon as we can,” he muttered then hung up. He slid off her, looking down at her.

“Everything okay?” She seemed concerned.

“That was Bend. Gavin was attacked and he’s in the hospital.”

Chapter 17

Noelle stood at Gavin’s hospital bedside. The purple bruises on his face made her stomach turn. As soon as Rip had told her, they’d dressed and they drove to the hospital where Bend waited, giving them a quick version of what he knew happened.

Gavin was awake now, although he was groggy on pain meds. “What happened?”

“Can you tell me?”

He seemed lucid enough. “I remember walking into the hotel room and felt a hit to the back of my head. The guy must have been a giant because I didn’t even have time to defend myself before I was clobbered again.”

“Did you see who did this?” The lump in her throat grew. She had no love for him, but she didn’t want to see him hurt. Her head was reeling. Who would do this to him? He didn’t have any connections in town.

“Nope. But I’d like to find out.” He shifted and winced in pain. “Was this cowboy boot’s doing? He couldn’t take me face-to-face so he had to sneak attack?”

“No. Rip would never do this.” Noelle blurted.

“You sure? He certainly looked like he could pop my head off my shoulders. Jealous bastard.”
