I hit the pause button on the video. “That’s enough.”
“I kinda want to see the rest,” Ian said.
I glared at him.
He cleared his throat and shoved his phone back into his pocket. “Well…tell me happened after that then. I’ll help you come up with a solution.”
“You’ll help me like you helped me keep Isabella out of my apartment?”
“Take it out on me all you want. But you were going to have to tell Penny the truth about your past eventually.”
I sighed, leaned back on the couch, and stared up at the ceiling. “Isabella signed the divorce papers.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
“So shouldn’t we be celebrating?”
“I don’t know.” I turned back to him. “I thought I’d feel relieved once it was over. But all I can feel is this dread in my stomach. Penny wants to know what I’ve been hiding from her. I told her I’d tell her everything tonight. Isabella signing the papers should have made today one of the best days of my life. But tonight could make it the worst.”
“You really think Penny would walk away?”
“She should.”
Ian shook his head. “She loves you.”
“She doesn’t know me. Not really.”
Ian shook his head again. “I think you’ve shown her the good, the bad, and the ugly already and she’s still here. You two have had arguments before. Really bad ones. And you always make up.”
“This is different. It’s not a discussion that we can both move forward from. I’m sick, Ian. I’ll always be sick.”
“What’s that line that people say? That you’ll love each other in sickness and in health?”
I laughed. “In wedding vows?”
“Yeah. Besides, you’re good right now. You’re better when you’re with her.”
“That’s a lot of pressure to put on her.”
Ian shrugged. “Like I said. You two have already been through a lot and you’re still together. You’re her professor, for fuck’s sake.”
I laughed.
“And makeup sex is hot.”
I stopped laughing. “Stop watching us have sex.”
“I didn’t sayyourmakeup sex was hot. I just meant in general.”
“Voyeur.”
Ian laughed. “I’m just doing my job. Trust me, that’s not my kink. Although I do like the forbidden aspect. I just prefer sleeping with my boss’s sister.”
I glared at him.
“I’m kidding.” He laughed even though none of this was funny. “Well, I need to go shower. It was a loooong night.”
