“Great, now what’s my surprise?” she says, breaking from my kiss to move onto the next thing. That’s Victoria’s mind for you, always moving at a fast speed.
“I’m not finished yet. There is one last thing I need to ask you.” I don’t want to drag this out. “Will you come and work for me? Actually, withme, not for me. I want us to build the hotels together, and I know that for every day we argue through every little decision we make, we will have made the best decision for everyone. You push me to think, and you won’t back down when you believe I’m wrong—which is never, I might add. But what I’m saying is I want to spend my days arguing with you so that I spend my nights loving you.”
“What if we break up again? We are only just beginning.” Oh, my sweet girl, I don’t think I have made myself clear enough.
“Victoria, I am never, ever letting you go again. You are right, this is the beginning of the rest of our lives together. And when we get back to London, I want to meet your parents, because I am doing this the right way. I want to ask for their permission to lock their daughter up in my tower for the rest of her life so I can worship her body and make her do dirty things with me.”
Her voice is barely a whisper. “Do you mean marriage?”
“Oh, I mean I will be doing lots of things to you and with you, and marriage is one of them, along with me finally taking that ass of yours. You will spend the rest of your life begging me for more of whatever I choose. And we will both love every minute of it.”
Tears start falling down her cheeks, but her smile tells me they are happy tears. “You told me that day on the train when I met you, that you hoped it was the start of whatever amazing thing I wanted to happen.” I swipe the tears from her face with my thumb. “You forgot to tell me I was looking at that amazing thing, and that was you.”
Kissing her tenderly on the lips, she pulls away for one last word.
“I love you, Richard Nicholas Weston Darby, but I’m not sure I can work with you. We will kill each other on the first day.”
Her little giggle tells me that wasn’t a no.
“That’s what I’m counting on, Victoria. I fucking love fighting with you, because you know the make-up sex is going to rock your world!” Just the way you have rocked mine from that first morning I laid eyes on you.
Who knew I needed this much crazy in my life, but I will thank the universe and my father every day for bringing me just who I needed.
My beautiful and crazy Victoria.
