Seong Hyeon frowned. Jason was sure he would’ve rather cut out his own tongue than admit failure. “I’m sorry, sir. I’ll–”

“No. I don’t want your apology either.” Jason huffed. “I want the man I love to be safe, Seong Hyeon. And I want you to tell me whether you can do that or not. Because every instinct I have tells me today was just a warning shot from KBR. And if you can’t handle this, I need to find someone who can.”

Seong Hyeon’s jaw muscles flexed so tightly Jason thought they might snap. Then he nodded. “If I have the resources I need, then yes, I can handle it.”

“You’ve got them,” Jason said. “I’ll talk to Naomi. And whatever she won’t agree to, I will.” He leaned in close enough to feel Seong Hyeon’s breath on his face. “But the gloves come off. Do you get me?”

“I do, sir.”

Jason examined Seong Hyeon’s face for any signs that he was lying. And to ensure that the man really understood what he wanted. Satisfied, he nodded. “Good enough. Go get the car. I’ve seen enough of this goddamn building for the day.”

Seong Hyeon offered Jason a quick bow before leaving him in the corridor. Jason returned to Naomi’s office to collect Tae Hyun, who was speaking with Naomi next to Lily’s desk. Tae Hyun smiled when he spotted Jason approaching. Naomi looked back and gave Jason a single nod before returning to her office.

“What was that about?”

Tae Hyun casually half-shrugged. “I may have been explaining how your anger before was entirely justified and that she shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss it.”

Jason’s eyebrows floated up. “I’m very curious to know how she took that suggestion.”

Tae Hyun chuckled. “Reasonably well. I’m the diplomatic one. Remember?”

“I do.” Jason smiled. “I’ll never get tired of watching you charm your way through anything. I could learn a lot from you about that.”

“It’s only fair.” Tae Hyun took Jason’s hand. “I’ve already learned so much from you, hyung. You’ll be my inspiration if I ever need to make anyone cry.”

Jason almost frowned. “Are you teasing me?”

Tae Hyun smiled. “I am.”

“Oh, how the tables have turned.” Jason gently squeezed Tae Hyun’s hand. “You know, next time, if you wanna shut me up, you can always just stick your dick in my mouth.”

“Hyung!” Tae Hyun rolled his eyes. “You’ll never let me win at teasing, will you?”

“No.” Jason grinned. “But I’ll let you keep trying.” Then he let his smile fall away. “How are you? You know, seeing that message and all?”

Tae Hyun frowned. “I always liked Jong Soo, and I hate the idea that he’d suffered enough to take his own life. You know?” Jason nodded. He knew that feeling well. Losing Joo Won like that had been a blow that had taken him a decade to recover from. He didn’t even want to consider what losing Tae Hyun would do to him. “And I never really believed that KBR had anything to do with it. Until today, at least.” Tae Hyun visibly shivered. “It scares me to think that Pak might be capable of something like that.”

Jason squeezed Tae Hyun’s hand again. “It’s a good thing you got out of there. At least, now, we can help protect you.” He reached up to caress Tae Hyun’s cheek. “And I meant what I said before. If anything happens to you, I won’t stop until everyone’s paid for it.”

Tae Hyun smiled, pressing his cheek into Jason’s hand as his ears turned rosy. “Thank you, hyung. But let’s hope it won’t come to that.”

“For sure.” Jason gently brushed his thumb along the curve of Tae Hyun’s jaw. “Are you ready to go?”

Tae Hyun emphatically nodded. “Yes, please.”

Jason decided to skip saying goodbye to Naomi before leaving. He’d seen enough of her for the day, too. He was sure she probably felt the same way about him. So the pair went straight to the elevator, stepping into the empty car once it arrived.

Tae Hyun immediately pushed Jason against the nearby wall and attacked his mouth with a long, wet kiss. Jason was almost too surprised to respond. But he quickly grabbed Tae Hyun’s waist, pulling their bodies together while their tongues clashed. He felt a warm, comforting flush spread from his belly to his chest, dampening the flames of his rage as it rekindled his love’s fire. He’d spent so much effort ranting and raving about the vital importance of Tae Hyun’s safety that he’d nearly forgotten why that was. Jason loved that man with a passion that made his fury seem mild.

But they only had eight floors to travel before they reached the lobby. So Tae Hyun, still ever conscious of avoiding public displays of affection, pulled away from their kiss. But he stayed in Jason’s grasp for a moment longer, affectionately gazing at him with his soft, brown eyes.

Jason’s heart melted a little. “I love you so much. I wish I could promise I’ll never let anything bad happen to you.”

“I love you, too, hyung.” Tae Hyun stepped back and grabbed Jason’s hand at the ding signaling their arrival at the lobby. “And I know you can’t promise that. Just promise me you’ll always try. That’s more than enough.”

“I promise I’ll always try.”

Tae Hyun smiled. “Good. Let’s go home.”
