She looked up at me through her lashes.
“You promise?” she asked. “He helped me a lot. Without him, I wouldn’t have been able to escape or get a new identity in the first place.”
“I promise,” I said with my most convincing smile.
Not kill. Rough up, maybe. But for her, I’ll make sure not to kill him.
She pulled her lower lip between her teeth, biting it lightly.
“I’ll be mad if you kill him,” she said after a moment.
“Iwon’t,” I said with an exasperated sigh. “Not if you ask me not to. Haven’t you realized that you have me right under that little thumb of yours?”
She rolled her eyes, but I saw the side that ghosted her lips.
“His name is Agent Jonson,” she said. “I ran into him with the senator once, but besides that I haven’t—”
Are you fucking kidding me?It took all my strength not to let a string of curse words leave my mouth.
“Please tell me you’re joking.”
I squeezed my eyes shut, unable to believe what I was just hearing.
What the fuck is with this FBI agent, and why couldn’t I get rid of him? Thelastthing I wanted while I was trying to get us to freedom was to get involved withhimagain.
“What?” Blake asked, her voice raising an octave. “You know him?”
“Oh, I know him,” I grumbled and looked down at her with a tense smile. “Unfortunately, too well.”
She swallowed, the movement of her throat catching my attention. Even through my anger, the lust hadn’t died down yet. I wanted nothing more than to lean forward and lick the length of her neck. Maybe even dig my teeth into it.
“Will that be a problem?”
“No,” I said, clearing my throat and trying to think of anything but fucking the delicious woman in front of me. “Just… annoying. But I promised you I wouldn’t kill him.”
Which I almost regret.
But her smile caused my heart to twist. She turned toward me, wrapping her arms around my shoulders.
“What a good listener you are,” she teased, her lips brushing across mine.
“Careful,” I growled, trailing my hands down her sides. “You’re poking a bear, and I think the last thing we need is to get caught because I couldn’t keep my hands off you.”
She let out a light laugh.
“Just a quickie?” she asked.
I pulled away, sending her a look.
“Who are you right now?” I asked, half joking.
“Someone who’s never felt freer,” she said and crashed her lips to mine.
I couldn’t deny her, not when her hand tangled in my hair and her teeth raked my lower lip. I pulled her to me, not letting myself waste the opportunity.
God, I may have just found my match.
