“Then you’re making me some cookies to experience that dough! But not right now.”
I grab her hand, leading her out of the kitchen and into the living room. I throw a few logs into the fire and flick off the overhead lights so we can enjoy the ambiance of the Christmas tree. “Are you happy?” I ask, loving her demeanor.
“Yes,” she whispers. I pull her into my arms, and our bodies sway together. As I grab her hand, I twist her around, and she giggles.
I hum “Please Come Home for Christmas” as we slow dance in front of the fire.
When we’re done, she pulls away. “Why that song?”
“My grandpa used to sing it a lot.”
“It’s depressing.”
I laugh. “Getting soft on me?”
She pops out her bottom lip, and I remove the space between us. “I’ll be here for Christmas. I promise.”
“You better be,” I tell her as our lips press together. Claire pulls me to the floor in front of the fireplace with her.
She lies flat on her back, and I tucked into her side, propped up on my elbow. The flames dance in the fire, and when she smiles, my heart races.
“I’m glad you picked me up,” she whispers.
“I’m glad you didn’t put gas in your truck.”
Laughter escapes her. “So dumb.”
I brush hair out of her face. “Sometimes mistakes end up being miracles in disguise.”
Her palm presses against my cheek, and I dip down to kiss her again.
Before I pull away, she whispers against my lips, “Make love to me, JJ.”
CHAPTER 19
CLAIRE
When the words come out, it feels right.
“Darlin’, ya sure?”
“Yes, please.”
“Mmm, kinda sexy to hear you ask so nicely.” He smirks.
Being here in this moment with Jake is everything.
I untie the robe, revealing myself to him. I’m on full display, loving the way his eyes drift over my naked body. He captures one of my hard nipples in his mouth and slides down his joggers, his hard cock at full attention.
Our lips dance together as Jake positions himself above me. I open my legs wider, anticipating every thick inch of him, but he stops, waiting outside of my entrance.
“We’ll go slow, okay? If I hurt you, ple—”
Placing my hand on his cheek, I whisper, “I trust you.”
As he rests his forehead against mine, he slowly thrusts forward. I gasp, and he freezes, meeting my eyes.
“I’m okay,” I say, further adjusting to him.
