Tome.
I could see it in the way her shoulders straightened when I walked into the little hole in the wall diner. The way her eyes glanced from window to doorway, as if she was waiting to be caught with me a second time.
“Hi.” I said, sliding into the booth across from her.
She ducked her head and continued looking anywhere but at me. Her eyes darted around, cheeks growing pale.
“Are you okay?”
“We used a condom, right?” She blurted out, eyes squarely landing on mine.
“Yeah.” I answered, confused and more nervous than before. “Why?”
“I’m pregnant.”
It took her words a few minutes to actually sink in. Pregnant. Like with a baby?Mybaby? I thought the condom felt funny after we finished, but I couldn’t see well enough to know if it had broken.
Well…okay.
“And you think it’s mine?”
Her eyes went to slits, “Yes, Finn. It’s yours.”
“Okay.”
“Okay… Okay? That’s all you have to say?” Her hands landed on the table with a loud smack. “I’m fucking pregnant.” She said between gritted teeth.
“Okay, Firecracker.” I said, placing my hands on hers. “We can figure this out.”
Her eyes jumped from my hands covering hers to my face. “We can?”
“Of course. Let’s start with names.”
Her eyes went big, rounded and watery. A waitress brought her a milkshake, it was sweating by the time she finally grasped the straw and took a large sip.
“Veronica Gibson, but everyone calls me Ronnie.”
“Finn Hart.” I said, keeping my hand as close to hers as possible. I wanted to touch her, to make sure she knew I was here.
“How are you so calm?”
“Oh, I’m freaking the fuck out on the inside.” I answered honestly. “And I have a lot of questions.”
She nodded, “Me too.”
“Where do we start?” I asked, willing to follow her lead.
“I have no idea.”
Ever since I called Finn a week ago, he had been around more and more. We were still figuring out what the hell we were doing, but as of right now. I was just glad he was willing to keep my secret.
I hadn’t told my two best friends about the baby. With work and Bellamy learning to love again, it was difficult to find the time, and I wasn’t ready to have the conversation yet. My best friend was amazing, I knew she would understand.
Finn has been more than enough to fill my time. We had been talking, and texting, and sending baby things to each other. It’s become a nice surprise everytime I see a notification pop up on my phone.
Little butterflies erupted every time I saw him, and I thought for a fleeting moment about my rules.
His name flashed on my screen and I answered, “Hello, baby daddy.”
