He scoffed, but took Atlas from Bell and rocked him back and forth in his arms. Penelope carried in more items and I helped her put them where they needed to go.
“And where is the lovely, Jolene?” Xavier asked Atlas in his best baby talk.
“She left late yesterday,” I made Finn call her this morning to make sure she made it home safe, “She’s probably hours into a nap right about now.” I teased.
“She’s a saint, that woman.” Bellamy said, taking the words right out of my brain.
We plated food and ate, all while everyone got their fix of Atlas. He made a few sounds and wildly moved his little arms. We blew him kisses and he smiled a gummy smile.
Finn, Aaron, and Benny all came in for food. However, another figure stalked through the doorway and we all looked to Xavier, I didn’t know Landon would be with them. The last time Finn talked about him he was headed back to North Carolina, after Xavier fired him from New Leaf.
Finn kissed my head and rubbed Atlas’s belly.
“I didn’t know you were still in town, Landon.” Bellamy said, voice like ice.
Ouch.
He smiled, “Just came back, had to tie up a few loose ends.”
Looks were exchanged as I stood with Atlas and laid him in his portable bassinet. He sucked on his paci and went to sleep. He’d be up in a few hours, ready to eat again.
Finn rounded the stairs after me and slid his arms around my hips, I wasn’t in perfect shape. I had a lot of pooch now that all the skin I’d stretched with Atlas was no longer stretched. But he used every excuse he could to touch me and shower me with compliments.
“You didn’t tell me Landon was coming.” I admonished.
“Thought it might be a nice surprise.” Finn whispered in my ear mischievously.
I turned and lifted my arms to link my hands behind his neck, the instant our lips touched I felt fireworks. Great ground shuddering fireworks, bright colorful strokes of light filtered behind my eyelids.
“I love you.” We said it at the same time, both smiling into each other's kisses.
We returned to the table, where Xavier was giving Landon a death glare. Bellamy and Aaron were holding hands under the table, and Penelope was rolling her eyes at Xavier’s rude behavior.
Finn loaded up his plate and sat next to me at the table, when he sat, his gaze caught mine, and I smirked. He was the sexiest man I’d ever met, hands down. Seeing him being such a good father to Atlas had me ready for Dr. Steele to release me already so I could jump his bones.
“Alright you two.” Xavier muttered.
“Sorry, what was that sour puss?” Penelope asked.
“Ugh!” Xavier groaned, “Stop looking at my best friend like you want to eatherfor dinner instead.”
Finn winked at him and said, “It’s been a long six weeks, man.”
Xavier looked at me incredulously, like I was scandalizing the whole lot of us. I’d show him. I smirked, shrugged my shoulders and said, “Can’t help I have a bomb ass pussy.”
Rowdy laughter and cat calls sounded over the table as we all finally dug into our meals. My heart felt like it could burst. My home, filled with the people I loved, laughter flowed, voices floated, it was perfect.
Bellamy and Aaron were happily chatting with Penelope between bites, Benny and Landon were talking about whatever sports team would come out of top this year, and Xavier was staring daggers at Landon, who, to his credit, ignored the sharp eyes.
And then there were my two guys. Finn turned his head to look at our son, always hawk eyed and ready for anything. I leaned over placing my chin on Finn’s shoulder, “We did it.”
He smiled, and turned to kiss my forehead, “We did, Firecracker.”
If you knew me five years ago, you never would have caught me dead at a child’s birthday party. Or wearing a fucking bunny costume at said birthday party. But what my baby wanted, my baby got.
Ronnie, that is.
She had this grand second birthday planned out, which involved a visit from an overly grown bunny. Also known as me. I’d put the costume on in the garage while Aaron held my beer and laughed at my expense.
