“Oh my god, give me the phone.”I snatch it from Knox.“Jordannah?”I ask.

“Who’s this?If I don’t get Lacey, I’m hanging up.”She’s not happy.

“No, wait. It’s me, Lacey,” I hurriedly say before the line disconnects.“Where’s Antonio? What do you know?”I ask her.For the first time I feel hopeful.

“If you want him, I’m the only one who can take you to him.I’ll send you the address of the warehouse I’m at and we’ll go from there.Alexander is not to set foot near us, or Antonio’s fate is set in stone,” she stresses.“You can bring that hot soldier that was going into his apartment with you instead.”Her vicious bite raises the hair on my skin.

“What if I don’t listen. Then what?”I need to see how far this bitch is willing to push.

“You’re all as good as dead.”I look at Xander for advice. His silent nod cements all our fates.

“I’ll do it,” I agree.Why wouldn’t I though?This is all my fault.

“Details sent.See you soon, cupcake,” she provokes.

The line cuts out and the room turns to utter chaos.I want to leave without them knowing and finish this myself, but Xander’s eyes haven’t left mine this entire time.

I hear snippets of conversations as they play out.

“Why was she at Tony’s house?”Is one of the questions I hear from Ava.

I answer her because that’s simple.Jordannah said so herself.“Because she’s been to see him on behalf of Darius. The same thing happened in Vegas, and she was at the restaurant the other night as well.”

That conniving bitch!I want to slit her throat.

Now the room has quietened, I need to make my next move loud and clear.

“I’m going alone.Knox and Vince, you can find a way to track me, but I’m not allowing this crazy bitch the joy of winning.Knox, you can take Antonio’s knife.I know you’ll find a way to reunite them.”

Ava’s hand clamps down on my wrist, stopping me from standing.

“You’ll need a weapon, and I know the perfect thing.I’ll be right back.”Ava’s face lights up with evil excitement.

When I catch a glance in Camille’s direction, she too has a slight malicious grin.

“Oh boy, this’ll be good,” I mutter. This isn’t going to be just any normal defense weapon.

I look around the room at all the men’s faces and there’s doubt written as clear as day on each of them.

“What?”I ask incredulous.

Then it hits me.

“Oh, fuck no.I’m not carrying around her broken heels. One of you needs to give me a gun or something.”I watch each of their expressions and it’s Knox’s quick wink that tells me he has my back.

After she comes back and fusses over what I need to be aware of, I’m in one of Xander’s cars driving toward Newark with Vince and Knox not far behind.

Each mile closer I get to my destination, the more my stomach revolts and my thoughts tell me I’m making a mistake.

The address she gave is ridiculously big with warehoused buildings strewn throughout the property. The marker on my GPS announces my arrival, and I look for any sign of civilization.Just as I put the car in park, a roller door opens, and Jordannah appears waving me inside.

I drive into the dully lit lot and park next to Antonio’s car.My nerves bundle up, so I fidget with my phone as a distraction.I’m playing hopscotch with my life, not knowing where the marker will fall; If I’m courageous or a coward.

I flinch and drop my phone down the crack of the seat as my door opens, then Jordannah’s face fills my view.

“You took your time, princess,” she snarls.

I try to hold back the disdain for that nickname, but my poker face, or lack of, lets me down.
