“It’s not quite that drastic. There are a ton of millionaires, billionaires, who no one knows their names. The people who manage the wealth of the wealthy? Financial advisors? They make bank and yet… they’re essentially anonymous money managers. That’s not a very exciting life. I bet you couldn’t name one.”
He laughs. “I can’t even name an athlete.”
“But you can name a celebrity. And a royal. Can’t you?”
He tilts his head to the right, a smirk playing across his lips. “Yep. There’s Prince Leopold of Miegbul. He’s like a real-life Prince Charming. And then a celebrity?” He taps his chin. “Ah. Apollo Seagrave, heir to a fucking fortune and all-around playboy.”
“Exactly. I bet you know more about their lives than most people you know personally.”
He smirks at me. “Yep. You’re probably right.”
He orders another drink and leans back on the stool to look around. “I kind of wish I could live here.”
I don’t. There are far too many tourists. But I’m sure there are residents somewhere. Families. A school. Hm. I wonder where the employees of the islands live.
“Hey, want to go for a walk?” he asks.
Inwardly, I groan. I know what’s coming. The same thing that always comes.
“Or… My room is close. We can go somewhere… less public.”
I look at him and frown. “I’m going to pass.” Getting out of my stool, I shake my head. Disappointed, but not surprised.
“Look, I’m sorry, man,” he says. “I was just—"
My hand raising cuts him off. “It’s fine. I’m used to it.”
He winces. “Jesus. I’m a dick, huh? I bet you get propositioned to suck your dick all the time.”
More than I care to admit.
“Sorry. Really.”
I nod and wave as I turn away and head for the beach to slowly make my way back to the dock as the sun goes down.
TEN
NOAH
I giveMax the second day on Kala off, so he can do whatever he wants with his dick being the compass to show him the way to whatever treasure is nearby. Instead, Azure hangs out with me. He is constantly surprised by my presence whenever I approach after sunscreen duties but there isn’t any hesitation. I’m not sure if he dislikes people around or if he’s just not used to it.
We ride horses and then wander around the volcano for a while. Before nightfall, we’re back on Keone Reef and sitting at an outside bar with a band playing.
He’s been eyeing a guy since we sat, so when I get up to go to the bathroom, I tell him I am going to head back to the yacht so he can do his thing if he wants to. The way he looks at me says he knows I’m lying but I shove him toward the crowd anyway.
The table is taken when I return from the bathroom, so I head for the beach. A lone figure walks along the shore and since he seems to be heading in the general direction of the yacht, I think I’ll join him until he creeps me out.
When I approach and he looks up, I’m surprised to find that I know him. “Lix?”
He shrugs, offering me a small smile.
“This not your scene?” I ask, pointing with my thumb over my shoulder at the area I’ve just come from.
“I’m demisexual,” he says, and my brows raise. “So it’s hard for me to get into something like this when literally almost every encounter involves a proposition to suck my dick.”
I wince. “Yep, I get that. Though I’m not demi.”
“Same problem; different reason,” he says.
