DemiDefenseKip:You okay with this?

PrettyInLace:Yes. Sorry. I can undress. I just thought… part of being a doll is the undressing too.

DemiDefenseKip:It is. Thanks.

We don’t talkas I slowly undress the mage on screen and then redress him in the new dress. Another jeweled necklace. This time I keep him barefoot, but that’s partially because I don’t like the options I have for shoes in my bag. I also keep the crown on.

It’s more difficult to manipulate the controls to get him sitting on the bed how I want. When I finally have him, I just stare.

PrettyInLace:Demi?

DemiDefenseKip:yes?

PrettyInLace:I’d let you dress me up.

DemiDefenseKip:Thanks, Pretty.

PrettyInLace:In real life, I mean. I’d let you do this to me.

My heart beats faster and I part my lips to try to take a deeper breath. I shiver. Something inside me stirs. Something that almost feels like… arousal.

Swallowing it down, I type back.

DemiDefenseKip:I’d really love that, Pretty Boy.

We’re quiet for a while. I don’t move my character as I stare at Pretty on the bed. Motionless except for the occasional blinking. His chest rises and falls with his breaths. It makes the moment feel just that much more real.

Eventually, I move my druid onto the bed and bring the mage into my lap. Repositioning him like a doll and then once more, we’re still and silent.

I wonder what he’s thinking. The man behind PrettyInLace. I wonder what he looks like.

PrettyInLace:What’s your favorite fairy tale?

I smile and close my eyes for a minute. Do I have a favorite fairy tale?

DemiDefenseKip:I need time to think about this one. You go first.

PrettyInLace:I love The Little Mermaid because the two worlds come together for a happily ever after. It’s like they’re literally two different species but somehow love conquers all.

DemiDefenseKip:Not to be a downer but you know the original tale does not have a happy ending.

PrettyInLace:Really?

DemiDefenseKip:Most original fairy tales don’t have happy endings. They weren’t meant to teach your child false promises. They were meant as lessons. It starts off much the same, but the mermaid doesn’t win the prince. He ends up finding the woman he really was in love with and it’s not the mermaid. She turns into sea foam.

PrettyInLace:I’m horrified!

DemiDefenseKip:If you think that one’s bad, you should learn the truth about Sleeping Beauty. Spoiler—it’s basically a rape story. With a very disgusting ending.

PrettyInLace:The fuck?!

DemiDefenseKip:Obviously those aren’t the stories parents want their children to know anymore. While I don’t know that every story is really made for children, I think realistic expectations on life aren’t a bad thing.

DemiDefenseKip:Another reason parenthood isn’t for me. Ha!

PrettyInLace:lol. I no longer want to talk about fairy tales. I need to reexamine my childhood! I’ve been living a lie.

DemiDefenseKip:There’s nothing wrong with liking the HEA stories. I think the reasons you like The Little Mermaid have the right idea behind it.
