When I wake up,the game is still open on my laptop since it’s plugged in. The mage and druid are asleep in the bed. I smile somewhat smugly when I see the mage is the big spoon.

DemiDefenseKip:Good morning, Pretty Boy. I’m so sorry I fell asleep.

When I don’t get a message in response right away, I head for my bathroom and take another quick shower. I was so tired last night I’m not sure if I actually cleaned or just stood under the hot water.

I pull on a pair of shorts and then drop back on my bed when I see that he’s responded.

PrettyInLace:I’m going to pretend that’s not a reflection of my lovemaking.

DemiDefenseKip:lol. Definitely not. Just my exhaustion!

I lay in bed all morning and chat with Pretty. Our characters remain where they are. We’ve decided they’ve earned a day of lounging. Just after lunch, my brother knocks on my door.

“Yeah?”

It opens and he pokes his head in. “Just seeing if you’re alive.” His eyes drop to my laptop, and he frowns. “You’re really working?”

Grinning, I shake my head. “Playing a game.”

“Oh. You want lunch?”

I nod. “You cooking or are we ordering?”

“You haven’t been here in three weeks. Whatever’s in your fridge has gone bad.”

“So what you’re saying is I need to schedule a delivery. On it. Order whatever you want. You have my password to the food delivery apps, yeah?”

“I do,” Roux says.

He remains at my door as I pick up my phone to log into the grocery store app. I look up when he hasn’t left after another minute’s passed. “What’s up?”

Roux studies me then shakes his head. “Nothing. I’ll let you know when it’s here.”

I watch as he leaves, shutting my door behind him.

I shop for groceries while talking to Pretty and only leave my laptop when they arrive and then lunch is delivered. Then I’m back on my bed in front of the game.

This is the routine I continue for another twenty-four hours until Roux knocks again the next day around lunch. I look up just as he opens the door. His eyes move right to the laptop, and he frowns.

“What are you really doing?” he asks, crossing his arms over his chest.

“Being a shitty brother, apparently,” I say, sitting up and stretching.

Roux rolls his eyes. “Seriously. What are you doing?”

“I’m playing a game,” I say and shift the screen to show him. Thankfully, our characters aren’t fucking right now. They’re not even in the inn. An hour ago we decided that they needed exercise and chose a quest to do together.

Roux stares at the screen. Then his light eyes are on mine.

Washing my hand over my face, I sigh. “I’m talking to a guy in the game,” I tell him. Roux grins triumphantly, and I shake my head. “We are playing the game, though.”At this very moment…

He comes in and drops to the end of my bed. “Spill.”

“There’s not much else to tell you. We talk in the game when we’re online at the same time.” I shrug, ignoring the sick feeling in my stomach because I’m downplaying it.

“Yes. Now tell me the whole truth.”

Fuck, I appreciate how he calls me out on shit. While I try (and totally fail) to contain my grin, I lean back on my pillows. “Just over two weeks ago, our characters ran into each other. And… we’ve spent hours talking every night. There really isn’t much more to this than that.”
