Pretty Boy
Oh good. I’m not getting ahead of myself. Then yes, I had a good night dreaming of you.
What’re you up to today?
Before I can answer, another text message flashes across the top of my screen. Had it been anyone else, I would have ignored it. But it’s my brother, so I click over to our text thread.
Roux
Are you awake?
The fluttery feeling in my stomach sinks. He’s with Gabe, so I’m pretty sure he’s fine. Safe. But he’s texting me at 8:30 in the morning. Less than a day after he arrived there.
Me
I am. You okay?
Roux
Yeah, I’m fine. You’re heading home today?
Me
That’s the plan. You want to come home?
Roux
No. Not exactly. I was wondering if you’d want to come to Gabe’s beach house with us for a few days? Then I’ll go home with you. I know you didn’t plan for a beach trip, but I don’t think your bank account will notice if you buy a few more pieces for your closet.
I chuckle, rolling my eyes.
Me
You sure everything’s okay? Gabe hasn’t hurt you, has he?
Roux
No, of course not. I’m fine.
There’s more to it than that, though. I can tell. He wouldn’t ask me to join them if he was fully comfortable there.
Me
Text me the address. I’ll head over after I find something to eat and switch my flight.
Roux
Thanks, Lix.
Yep. The ‘thanks’ is proof enough that this isn’t just a casual invite. It’s a request.
Flipping back over to Pretty, I send him a message before I call the airline.
Me
My brother is close, so I’m heading that way to spend a few days with him and his… fling? This guy he’s sleeping with, haha.
Pretty’s response is almost immediate, but I click out of the text message so I can log into the airline’s app. It takes me a few minutes to click through and adjust my flight to match my brother’s, which I’d scheduled through my app too. The seats aren’t together, but I think we can probably arrange for someone to switch with one of us.
