But I’d still like to have the option to wear a dress out. You know? Does that make any sense at all?

Me

It makes plenty of sense. You don’t want to share your vulnerabilities with the wide world but you also don’t want to be trapped within the box of expectations you’re currently in. Right?

Pretty Boy

YES!! Fuck, I swear you’re in my head and can articulate my thoughts better than I can.

Me

Nah. I just understand exactly what you’re saying.

Pretty Boy

Can I take these off now?

Me

You don’t have to ask. Of course, you can.

Our conversation gets quiet as he presumably undresses. While I’m waiting for him to come back, Roux knocks on my door. He pokes his head in, a brow raised when he sees me lounging in bed.

“You plan on blowing off the thing today?” he asks.

“The thing?” I frown. “What do I have going on?”

Roux rolls his eyes. “Some hockey thing with kids…? You invited me to go with you. Remember?”

“Oh fuck,” I say and jump out of bed. We have to leave in ten minutes. Unfortunately, that means I’m going to be walking out the door with a semi. Impressive, since I can rarely muster any arousal inside me at all, but this seems the most inopportune time.

I imagine this is what it is like for most teenage boys. Sporting a random woody. It not something that usually happens to me.

After sending Pretty a quick message about me being too distracted to remember the date, never mind the time, I scramble around my room to find something appropriate to wear on the ice. Then grab a hoodie, a hat, gloves, and my skates.

Roux is waiting for me at the door, amused as I practically go through it.

“You guys sexting?” he asks.

I glare at him as I unlock my car and climb in. “No.” Kind of. “Are you sexting with Gabe?”

He rolls his eyes. “No.”

We’re quiet as I drive through the somewhat busy streets. I glance at him while he watches out the window. “Want to talk?” I ask.

Roux looks at me, frowning. “Okay. About what?”

It’s my turn to roll my eyes. “Look. I know I’m kind of being a shitty host and a shittier brother since I’m all kinds of distracted. I’m sorry. You know if you need me, you can absolutely pull me from my haze. Right?”

He nods. “Yes. And you’re not a shitty brother. It’s a relief being here.”

“You’re not bored? It’s not too quiet, so you’re… stuck in your head?”

Roux turns his attention to me and sighs. “What did Gabe say?”

I frown. “What?”

“You’re being weird. What did he say?”
